Human capital management refers to the set of practices and software used to recruit, manage, and develop an organization’s workforce.

Autonomous HCM is the next era of human capital management, where AI agents orchestrate end-to-end HR and business processes, drive real-time, context-aware decisions, and optimize workforce operations at scale.​

A human resource management system (HRMS) is used to digitalize, automate, and centralize core HR processes, such as employee data storage, benefits administration, time and attendance, and payroll. An HRMS also provides talent management capabilities such as recruiting, onboarding, performance management, goal planning, learning and training, compensation, and succession planning. Human resource management systems and human capital management software are often used interchangeably.

A vendor management system is a cloud-based platform used to procure and manage temporary, contract, or contingent workers. Most VMS applications integrate with other on-premises or cloud-based enterprise HR systems. VMS software helps enterprises gain clear insight into who is working for them, as well as where, why, when, and at which rates.

AI in HR is used to streamline and automate HR processes across the employee lifecycle—from recruitment, hiring, and onboarding through talent management, learning, and performance.

SAP SuccessFactors HCM is a connected suite of human capital management software applications. It supports core HR and payroll, talent management, HR analytics, workforce planning, and employee experience management. Since 2001, SAP SuccessFactors solutions have been used by more than 10,000 customers in more than 200 countries and territories worldwide.

 

SAP SuccessFactors HCM includes cloud solutions in three key areas:

1.  Core HR and payroll, including a powerful HR information system, payroll software, self-service HR, and time and attendance

2.  Talent management, including solutions for recruiting, onboarding, learning, performance management, and compensation

3.  HR analytics and workforce planning, including AI-enabled people analytics, scenario modeling, what-if analysis, and strategic workforce planning

SAP HR was a key module in the SAP ERP application that provided comprehensive support for human capital management. Now, SAP HR has evolved into SAP SuccessFactors HCM—cloud-based HR solutions that put employees first. These solutions include a powerful HR system as well as tools for employee experience management, onboarding, learning, performance management, succession and development, and people analytics.
