SAP Joule for Developers comprises all design-time AI capabilities that assist developers to create apps and extensions. These do not encompass any runtime or end-user AI capabilities that are used outside of the development tools for SAP Build and ABAP. Examples of included capabilities are code generation, unit test generation, and code explanation. Examples of capabilities not included are SAP Document AI, SAP AI Core, and AI capabilities in SAP Build Work Zone.

We're offering free access to Joule capabilities for developers using SAP Build and ABAP Development Tools. Once this free offer expires, the commercial model via AI Units will take effect, requiring that the developers be granted access to these Joule capabilities by the organization.

The only requirement to access SAP Joule for Developers is accepting the SAP AI Terms.

Here’s how to enable Joule across SAP development tools:

  • SAP Build Code: Joule is enabled by default when you sign up for the service—no additional steps required.

  • SAP Build Process Automation and SAP Build Apps: You can enable AI capabilities from the SAP Build lobby. Simply review and accept the SAP AI Terms when prompted.

  • ABAP Environment: To access Joule in ABAP capabilities, contact your account executive to obtain the free license (for customers - SKU ID: 8019124, for partners – SKU ID: 8019541). The capabilities will be enabled within 48 hours of purchase. Ensure you have the required authorizations before use.

Note: For customers with existing activation of Joule for Developers: ABAP AI capabilities, the free offer will need to be re-ordered using the same SKU ID for it to remain valid.

Joule is powered by a combination of third-party foundation models—such as OpenAI, PaLM 2, Gemini, Anthropic, Llama, and Mistral AI—alongside SAP-centric models like the ABAP LLM, trained on millions of lines of ABAP code and purpose-built for cloud-based SAP development.

SAP Joule for Developers and SAP Joule for Consultants are purpose-built AI offerings designed to accelerate SAP cloud transformations—from design to delivery— with AI assistance built for projects teams and powered by SAP’s deep domain knowledge.

SAP Joule for Consultants helps consultants streamline design decisions and minimize rework with intelligent guidance, while Joule for Developers boosts development productivity across low-code, pro-code, and automation development with AI-powered assistance.
