1 PURPOSE
SAP’s purpose is to help the world run better and improve people’s lives. In support of our purpose, SAP
Group has committed to the Ten Principles of the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) and envisions
them as an engagement framework with our customers.
In 2000, SAP signed the UNGC thus committing to:
• Doing business responsibly by aligning strategies and operations with The Ten Principles on
human rights, labor, environment, and anti-corruption; and
• Taking strategic actions to advance broader societal goals, such as the UN Sustainable
Development Goals, with an emphasis on collaboration and innovation.
The UNGC states that organizations that derive revenue from Controversial Weapons (CW), in particular
the production, sale and/or transfer of antipersonnel landmines or cluster bombs, cannot be recognized as
participants of the UNGC.
As part of our commitment to the UNGC and to stay true with our purpose to help the world run better and
improve people’s lives, we want to ensure that SAP software and services are not used in connection with
controversial weapons. With this Commitment Statement, SAP is committing to ethical standards that go
beyond legal requirements.
2 Business Principles on Engaging with Controversial Weapons
Companies
As a matter of ethical and sustainable business, SAP will not conduct business with companies involved in
the production or distribution of CW. In particular, SAP will not sell its software or services to those
companies. These weapons include:
• Anti-personnel mines
• Biological weapons
• Chemical weapons
• Cluster munitions
• Incendiary (e.g. Napalm)
• Nuclear weapons
To identify companies involved in the CW business, SAP uses information from an external data
provider. Based on this list and on the criteria defined below, SAP identifies such companies that are
excluded from future business. The exclusion list is periodically updated. Companies will be excluded if
clear evidence has been provided on:
• Directly involvement in the production/sale/transfer of CW, key parts or services
• Support or assistance on research and technology dedicated only to CW
• Majority shareholding (35% or more of share capital) in a CW company
The exclusion will not apply to CW Companies fulfilling one or more of the following criteria:

• Affiliates unless involved in the production, use or distribution of CW
• Companies engaged in the destruction and disposal of CW
• Companies exiting the business of producing / distributing CW
SAP fully complies with all local and international laws on illegal weapons. We have imposed strict controls
and enforcement and will NOT engage in any illegal business relations. With this Commitment Statement,
SAP is committing to ethical standards beyond any legal obligation.
