GLOBAL CHALLENGESChallengesBUSINESS CHALLENGESPUBLIC 5In a world where there are immense challenges to sustainabledevelopment, the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015, provides ashared blueprint for the future through 17 Sustainable DevelopmentGoals.Within these goals, Target 11.2 focuses on providing access to safe, affordable, accessible, and sustainable transport systems for all, improving road safety, notably by expanding public transport. As the transportation sector accounts for nearly 20% of global carbonemissions, sustainability is a critical focus. Ongoing investments arevital to enhance mobility and to support the transition to moresustainable and efficient transportation systems.Transport for NSW’s vision is to create the safest, fastest, easiest, most reliable, and most cost-effective transport system in Australia. But as transportation is the fastest-growing source of emissions inAustralia, Transport for NSW is also committed to making everyjourney in NSW emissions free by 2050.Part of the way forward requires gaining better visibility of thediverse transport assets under its control to improve the cost-efficiency and financial sustainability of all transport assets.Better visibility will also provide valuable insights for planning, management, analysis, and reporting of transport assets, now andin the future. To get there, Transport for NSW needed to design, develop, andmaintain systems that are fully integrated, interoperable, andscalable to maximize immediate benefits and future potential.
