SAP Universal ID – your personal identity across SAP services
What is SAP Universal ID?
SAP Universal ID is your personal, permanent digital identity for the entire SAP ecosystem.
Think of it as a single account that stays with you throughout your career — regardless of which company you work for or which SAP products you use.
It acts as a central wallet that ties together all your SAP user identities (such as S-users or P-users), preserves your learning certificates, community badges, and professional achievements, and gives you one place to manage them all in the SAP Universal ID account manager.
Unlike a company account that you might lose when you change jobs, your SAP Universal ID is personal and belongs to you alone. It cannot be shared or transferred — it must be linked to one individual person.
SAP Universal ID is evolving
What is changing?
Starting July 2026, SAP will simplify how SAP user accounts are associated with your SAP Universal ID.
New account association model
Previously, individual SAP user accounts (such as S-users, P-users) could be manually linked or unlinked to your SAP Universal ID.
This change simplifies account management and creates a more consistent experience across SAP platforms. No accounts are deleted as part of this change, and your access remains unchanged. No action is required from you.
Going forward
Your email address becomes the primary association key: Instead of manually linking accounts, you add email addresses to bring associated accounts together under your SAP Universal ID
All SAP user accounts that use the same email address will automatically be associated
Previous changes signified a key change for SAP Universal ID
It does not serve any more as Identity Provider (IdP). This means, that it will not longer perform authentication to verify the identity of users attempting to log in. Instead the authentication now goes through SAP standard authentication mechanism (SAP IAS).
Already from January 2026, users have to use their email address specific to the user ID, or the specific/individual user ID (S-/P-user) to log in and the authentication goes through SAP standard mechanism (SAP IAS).
What remains the same?
Manage your SAP presence centrally
View and manage your associated SAP accounts, personal information, security settings, and company associations centrally in your SAP Account Manager.
Keep your identity for life
Your SAP Universal ID stays with you independently of your employer, helping you maintain continuity across your SAP journey.
Preserve your achievements and reputation
Your learning history, certifications, training completions, and SAP Community reputation remain connected to your SAP Universal ID — even if you change companies or email addresses.
Simplify your experience across SAP
SAP Universal ID helps create a consistent experience across SAP platforms and services while reducing the complexity of managing multiple accounts.
SAP Account Manager
The SAP Universal ID Account Manager remains your central place to:
manage personal information
maintain security settings
review associated SAP accounts
manage company associations
With the new model, account associations are handled automatically based on your email address.
Important note
Your SAP Universal ID is:
personal
unique
intended for individual use only
It must not be shared with others.
Why is SAP making these changes?
These steps are part of a bigger transformation that aims to simplify authorization and access management, and with the option to bring your own identity offer a state-of-the-art technology to customers. It will enable more seamless digital interactions for customers, consistent across all digital touchpoints and cloud products. The changes in SAP Universal ID are paving the way towards this important goal, streamlining the transition to SAP's standard authentication mechanism (SAP IAS).
