Executive summary
This document provides guidance to our SAP BusinessObjects customers on product directions for SAP
analytics solutions.
SAP Analytics Cloud is now part of SAP Business Data Cloud and remains the recommended option for all
new planning and analytics projects. SAP Business Data Cloud is a fully managed SaaS solution that unifies
and governs all SAP data and seamlessly connects with third-party data—giving line-of-business leaders
context to make even more impactful decisions.
With more than 30 years of innovations, SAP BusinessObjects Business Intelligence platform (SAP
BusinessObjects BI) equips thousands of companies which reliably manage enterprise reporting use cases
at scale. Our revised maintenance strategy guarantees Mainstream Maintenance until at least end of 2031
which secures your investments on the long run, whether you want to deploy on premise or in a private cloud.
With SAP BusinessObjects BI 2025, we open a new chapter of our story with a revised maintenance strategy
which addresses the need for more stability while keeping regular updates. We are switching from yearly
support packages to minor releases every 2 years. Additionally, and in alignment with SAP standard
maintenance strategy, Mainstream Maintenance is now followed by Customer Specific Maintenance during
which we deliver fixes for high and very high security issues (CVSS >= 7) during the first year. For SAP
BusinessObjects BI 4.3, we are extending Mainstream Maintenance until end of 2026, followed by Customer
Specific Maintenance.
SAP BusinessObjects BI 2025 is available since March 2025. With this new release, we continue the
modernization started in version 4.3 and streamline the suite by focusing on the core components while
providing alternatives for unsupported ones. Going forward, our strategy is based on 3 pillars: reach more
business users, increase power users’ productivity and reduce total cost of ownership.
For companies willing to move analytics workloads to the cloud, we offer 2 complementary options: SAP
BusinessObjects BI operated in a private cloud and SAP Business Data Cloud. SAP BusinessObjects, private
cloud edition is an opportunity to shift from a maintenance contract to a subscription model while leveraging
your existing investments in SAP BusinessObjects BI solutions. SAP Business Data Cloud is recommended for
new applications, use cases and users.

end solution covering all our customers’ Data Management, Analytics and Planning requirements. The deep

scalable solution for enterprise reporting scenarios to manage critical use cases. Proud of this heritage, we are
committed to support every customer, and with upcoming versions, your investments are safe on the long run.
New maintenance strategy
Until BI 4.2, Mainstream Maintenance was followed by 2 years of P1 support. Starting with BI 4.3, Mainstream
Maintenance is now followed by Customer Specific Maintenance during which we deliver fixes for high and
very high security issues (CVSS >= 7) during the first year. We are extending BI 4.3 Mainstream Maintenance
until end of 2026 so that security fixes are guaranteed until end of 2027 as previously committed.
With SAP BusinessObjects BI 2025, we open a new chapter of our story with a revised delivery cycle. Practically,
we are moving away from support packages delivered every year and supported only during 18 months to
minor releases delivered every 2 years, benefiting from 3 years of Mainstream Maintenance, followed Customer
Specific Maintenance including 1 year of security fixes. With this, we are confident we will better address the
need for stability expected by customers while keeping vehicles to deliver incremental innovations.
We already plan for a next release, BI 2027, which should be available in Q1 2027, followed by another one 2
years later. As we write this document, Mainstream Maintenance is guaranteed until at least end of 2031 and
we will revisit our roadmap on a regular basis.
In alignment with SAP standard maintenance strategy, all versions – including BI 4.3 – now benefit from
Customer Specific Maintenance as soon as Mainstream Maintenance ends. During this last phase, support
service is provided, but we do not deliver software updates nor fixes after the first year of security fixes.

SAP BusinessObjects BI 2025 and beyond
SAP BusinessObjects BI 2025 is available since March 2025.
This new version illustrates our strategy going forward: continue the modernization started in version 4.3 and
streamline the suite by focusing on the core components while providing alternatives for unsupported ones.
Our strategy is based on 3 pillars: reach more business users, increase power users’ productivity and reduce
total cost of ownership.
We want SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform to remain a trusted, robust and scalable platform for enterprise
reporting scenarios. Therefore, we have simplified the upgrade to new versions so that the whole process is
quicker and safer, we use standard authentication protocols to increase integration between systems and
allow immediate access to key information in the BI Launch Pad.
Latest versions of supported platforms are certified as well as the latest security standards. Likewise, we now
certify new data sources and latest versions of already supported ones. Here again, we focus on the most-
widely adopted use cases: single source .unx universes and direct data connectivity.
SAP BusinessObjects Web Intelligence is a leading business intelligence tool that enables organizations to
make informed decisions based on actionable insights through an intuitive user interface. Its value proposition
lies in its strong connection to the Semantic Layer (universes) enabling an incomparable no-code ad-hoc query
experience and in its ability to deliver real-time data analysis and reporting, including the widespread adoption
of "one version of the truth" across all departments of the enterprise.
As we sunset Lumira Discovery after BI 4.3, we want to provide an on premise alternative for self service data
preparation and dashboarding use cases. Within BI 2025 , we have enhanced Web Intelligence so that users
can go beyond transactional reporting thanks to new features in four main areas:
● Expanded data preparation capabilities introduce intuitive in-report data wrangling features, allowing users
to clean, merge and enrich datasets directly within Web Intelligence, minimizing reliance on external tools
and reducing time to insight: using Web Intelligence for lightweight ETL scenarios is now simpler and more
efficient than ever.
● Enhanced analytical reporting capabilities enables users to create captivating dashboards using an
expanded array of new visualizations and interactive controls, supported by flexible new layout formats for
a richer, more interactive experience: Web Intelligence which started with reporting excellence now brings
that same versatility to dashboarding, expanding the boundaries of business intelligence.
● New offline access allows users to explore data and reports on the go via a new offline artifact format (WIDX
- Web Intelligence Document eXtract): users now can access insights, charts and data, even without an
internet connection, facilitating effortless sharing with others, with no dependency on SAP BusinessObjects
nor dedicated reader required.
● Improved efficiency is achieved through a user-friendly interface that simplifies report generation for all,
from beginners to experts, with streamlined creation workflows and advanced customization options to
further enhance productivity: try the new Web Intelligence and you’ll be surprised how intuitive it is.
In future versions, we will continue to incrementally improve Web Intelligence core strengths and deliver
features such as:
● Enhanced ad-hoc data preparation with exploration and suggestions, enabling users to shape, blend, and
refine datasets independently, promoting agility, reducing reliance on IT and load on your on-premises or
cloud data sources.
● Dynamic layout with responsive content and tailored user experience, offering an optimized and intuitive
