In today’s dynamic, fast-paced business environment,
the ability to innovate and execute relies on the rapid
delivery of high-quality software.
This is especially critical for enterprise applications such as SAP as foundational,
operational backbones and strategic assets to help drive execution and competitive
advantage. Given the current landscape of financial uncertainty and geopolitical
instability, software plays an increasingly pivotal role in helping to ensure business
resilience and adaptability. However, application testing challenges impede the
velocity of software delivery, are a primary bottleneck for the DevOps pipeline,
and are a significant barrier to deploying software quickly, according to IDC’s research.

Effective software quality strategies, which robust automation and continuous testing
processes underpin, are key to addressing these issues. Emerging technologies, particularly
AI, generative AI (GenAI), and ML, are transforming this space; we observe the rapidly
growing benefits of leveraging AI, generative AI, and ML to augment software quality.
With appropriate governance and guardrails, these technologies can create efficiencies of
scale and improve application performance, data management, change impact analysis,
and business processes. This incorporation of AI and GenAI into software testing also has
the potential to help optimize quality assurance (QA) strategies to provide a contextualized
view for better prioritization, alignment with business goals, and competitive execution with
judicious and thoughtful use.
IDC interviewed organizations using SAP application testing solutions by Tricentis
(a leading test automation provider) to understand their impact on testing capabilities,
application quality, and business agility. Study participants described achieving significant
testing-related efficiencies through the automation and integration that SAP application
testing solutions by Tricentis provide, enabling them to increase testing throughput
and benefit from improved testing outcomes. As a result, they have increased the speed
of delivery of new applications, functionalities, and innovation, which drives both their
business operations and their cloud adoption.
Based on interviews with SAP and Tricentis customers, IDC calculates
that they will realize benefits worth an annual average of $5.33 million per
organization, which would result in total discounted three-year benefits
of $12.48 million per organization and a three-year net present value (NPV)
of $10.63 million per organization, by:
• Increasing testing team capabilities and throughput by automating testing, applying
dynamic risk analysis to ensure proper testing scope, and making testing more continuous
• Improving testing quality, which results in higher-quality applications and allows fewer
defects to make it into production environments
• Facilitating more agile and effective development activities, which improves time
to market for new applications and features and increases the bandwidth of development
and DevOps teams
• Delivering better business outcomes with higher-quality and timely customer-facing
applications and services, which can help win new business and better retain
existing customers
