4!|!163Foreword by ASUGAs the Chief Community Champion (CCC) ofAmericas’ SAP Users’ Group (ASUG), I have thepleasure of speaking at hundreds of events andto thousands of professionals who use SAP soft-ware. I love hearing their stories about their digitaltransformation journeys, because these storiesprovide a path that we can all follow to unlockthe value of our SAP software and servicesinvestments. Why expend effort on forging yourown path when you can follow the well-traveledpaths of fellow community members? At the heart of any digital transformation strategy isyour SAP ERP application. In ASUG’s latest annualresearch on SAP S/4HANA, we learned that 56%1of the North American customer base has eithermoved to SAP S/4HANA or is in the process ofmoving to SAP S/4HANA. While this statistic isimpressive, it tells me that we still have a lot ofwork to do as 2027 rapidly approaches. Over thenext few years, 44% of our customer communitywill need to make this journey—a journey thatrequires careful planning, preparation, preciseexecution, and, most important, time. And there isno time like the present to begin this journey. Thisis why this practical guide is such a great map foryour journey ahead. If you are wondering why this journey is necessary, let me point to one of the most disruptive forcesshaping our work today: artificial intelligence. Whatbegan in late 2023 as experimentation with genera-tive AI tools has now matured into real, embeddedbusiness capabilities. SAP has started infusing AIdirectly into ERP processes—helping finance teamsclose the books faster, supply chain leaders predictand prevent disruptions, and IT teams automateroutine support tasks at scale. Many of our membersare no longer asking “if” they should use AI but “how”they can operationalize it responsibly across theirenterprises. For this AI transformation to succeed, ERP systemsmust be cloud based, delivered as software as aservice (SaaS), and streamlined to support inno-vation. A cloud ERP foundation not only reducesthe weight of customizations but also creates theagility required to adopt AI capabilities and otheremerging innovations as they arrive. This is yourbusiness case for moving forward. The pages that follow serve as a practical fieldguide for senior IT leadership to chart their journeyto SAP S/4HANA. It provides a comprehensiveoverview of the key decisions, strategic choices, and implementation options available for you totransition to this next-generation ERP.My goal, and the goal of ASUG, is to support andguide you through your transformation journey, providing you with the latest developments andbest practices in a practical, condensed, andeasy-to-understand format. I hope that thisguide will serve as a valuable resource for you.As a community, we are here to support eachother in adopting this essential technology. Ourbusinesses need it to not only survive but thrivein this rapidly evolving new world.Best regards,Geoff ScottCCC, ASUG1. 5!|!163Foreword by DSAGSAP systems have been the digital backbone ofcompanies and institutions worldwide for manydecades. In economically challenging times, efficiency andscalability are more important than ever—and withthem, a reliable ERP system. With SAP Cloud ERPPrivate solutions at the core of the new SAP BusinessSuite, companies can combine powerful softwarewith innovations such as AI, which are generallyonly practical and feasible in cloud-basedenvironments.For several years now, SAP software landscapeshave been evolving in a more modular direction, opening up new paths toward greater flexibility. An approach based on SAP Business Suite, familiarto many from the on-premises world, now combinesthe proven strength of highly integrated businessprocesses with the advantages of modern cloudtechnology. This enables companies to modernizetheir SAP architectures step by step and benefitfrom innovations more quickly—without having tocarry out lengthy migration projects from monolithicsystems. The clean core strategy, along with the newlyintroduced matrix for the clean core concept, provides additional transparency about how“clean” a system truly is. The aim is to make iteven faster and easier in the future to integrateinnovations and updates into the ERP core. The integrated toolchain, including SAP Signavio,SAP LeanIX, and SAP Cloud ALM solutions, togetherwith RISE with SAP Methodology, provides valuabletools and methods for a successful business andcloud transformation. This guide explains how userscan introduce and apply them effectively—becauseultimately, that’s what it’s all about: creating realbusiness value with SAP solutions. These fundamental changes in SAP architecturesrequire a long-term transformation at all levels. As the German-Speaking SAP User Group (DSAG),with more than 4,000 member companies, we dis-cuss this transformation within our working groupsas it takes shape in day-to-day business practice. This manifesto serves as a helpful building blockto support companies in successfully completingthis journey.Thomas HenzlerExecutive Board Member for Sales,Production, and Logistics, DSAGDeputy Chairman of the Board
