NAYO Biotechnology: Standardizing management, reducing complexity, and tailoring innovation with SAP Cloud ERP
Enabling custom production through standard features
In less than a decade, NAYO Biotechnology has become a leader in laboratory automation equipment. The company’s quick growth and highly tailored offerings complicated R&D, procurement, and delivery. So, it chose SAP Cloud ERP solutions to standardize the processes that get mission-critical equipment to clients worldwide.

Bringing highly customized equipment to life sciences clients
As populations age and increasingly require early health screening, in vitro diagnostics have become a key growth area in the medical device sector. Founded less than a decade ago, NAYO Biotechnology meets this need as a leading manufacturer of laboratory automation equipment in China.
NAYO Biotechnology provides global laboratories with efficient and convenient experiences, offering customized solutions and services. Though the customized design is transformative for clients, it also presents delivery challenges for NAYO Biotechnology.
Traditionally, manufacturers create a bill of materials (BOM) for each unique product configuration. However, at NAYO Biotechnology, a high-precision, fully automated liquid handling system offers options for single-channel, 8-channel, and 96-channel configurations. Even the position of the system’s outlet often needs to be designed based on the specific layout of the client’s laboratory. While these customized designs aren’t highly complex, they still require the integrated efforts of R&D, procurement, and stock preparation—resulting in delivery times almost identical to those for new product development.
Prototype management is also a significant challenge for NAYO Biotechnology. The company’s advanced liquid handling platforms are often made up of hundreds of precision components, which are costly. The development of customer prototypes and research prototypes incurs high costs but has historically lacked detailed control. Manual ordering of prototype components—along with the need to track parts, verify quality, and manage maintenance—leads to frequent checks and delays, significantly slowing down prototype development and preventing efficient production.
Standardizing and configuring options for streamlined delivery
NAYO Biotechnology decided to implement SAP Cloud ERP for its configurable features to manage the production of customized equipment through a standard approach.
Using SAP Cloud ERP, NAYO Biotechnology can streamline the cutting-edge equipment manufacturing process. The company selected SAP partner Acloudear to develop a methodology for configuring its entire product line.
Building upon the similar foundational structures of in vitro diagnostic equipment, the configurable features allow for the addition of hardware modules that support different test types, user interface options in various languages, multi-brand reagents, and accessory reagent kits. All these are tailored to meet specific sales or clients’ requirements while maintaining standard functionalities. The configurable features are tightly integrated with modules of SAP Cloud ERP such as material management and production planning. This enables generation of the corresponding BOM based on the required configuration, automating procurement and production processes.
Through SAP Cloud ERP, NAYO Biotechnology integrates procurement, R&D, and sales into a single system, further standardizing business processes. Especially during the prototype phase, the precision components used are centrally managed within the system, starting from sourcing with suppliers to better ensure strict quality control and consistent delivery for subsequent mass production. The cloud customer care team from SAP provides project guidance and product-related issue resolution. R&D progress, clinical validation, and requirement changes are fully visualized on SAP Cloud ERP as the new ERP, allowing R&D teams to closely align with customer needs and quickly iterate prototype production.
NAYO Biotechnology has also standardized after-sales technical support as well as services such as equipment installation and maintenance—all within SAP Cloud ERP.

Simplifying complexity with cloud adoption that’s more cost effective
By using SAP Cloud ERP and its powerful configurable features, NAYO Biotechnology has redefined entire processes from procurement of spare parts to production and delivery. This balances control across processes with a new level of flexibility. Now, NAYO Biotechnology no longer needs to redesign models or create new BOM for customized options such as instrument height or outlet position, saving a significant amount of design, communication, and verification time. With SAP Cloud ERP, NAYO Biotechnology can now deliver prototypes in the same time frame as mass production.
With the powerful control provided by SAP Cloud ERP, NAYO Biotechnology has integrated procurement, R&D, and sales processes, making it easier to manage the complex prototype manufacturing process in life sciences. Today, NAYO Biotechnology can track the status of every component, significantly improving both R&D and production efficiency. This also helps ensure quality control and cost management of precision parts, further enhancing the company’s market competitiveness.
