Five years of skills research

The Future of Work Research Lab has studied the topic of skills in various ways for the past five years as it has dominated our annual list of HR meta-trends since 2020, consistently emerging as a top priority for organisations and HR to address. During this time, it has become clear that companies today realise the value of understanding the current and future skills required for their workforce, but struggle to do so. To help organisations achieve their skills goals, the scientists have published sets of insights on the topic of skills.

We have a lot of talented people with experience in different roles, but there are certain educational basics. As much as I would love all jobs to be available to everyone, there are legal and compliance implications. A solicitor is the best example. We need someone with a law degree to be a solicitor, no matter what your skillset is.
