Frequently Asked Questions

A digital commerce platform enables you to sell products, solutions, and services digitally – either through a typical online store or other digitally connected devices, such as mobile phones, wearables, connected cars, and IoT devices. It also allows you to include your physical stores in your digital commerce strategy, especially for omnichannel fulfilment scenarios, such as “buy online pick up in store” or “buy online return in store.”

A headless commerce platform is one in which the consumer-facing presentation layer is decoupled from the primary back-end, operational layer and connected through open APIs. This allows the business to continually add or enhance the experiential elements of the shopping and buying experience without affecting the core functionality of the platform. It also enables new selling channels such as social media marketplaces, mobile apps, in-store kiosks, and more, with minimal development needed by IT.

While both can be seen as different terms describing the same thing, e-commerce means selling products online, usually through a typical online store. Digital commerce expands that concept by including all the touch points and processes throughout the entire customer journey. This means that all the tools, processes, and technologies used to create the online offer are critical to the overall definition. It also encompasses the inclusion of physical sales channels, such as your store network, into your digital commerce strategy.

hybris’ industry-proven, cloud-based e-commerce and digital marketing solutions are now available as SAP Commerce Cloud – a part of the SAP Customer Experience portfolio.

Composable commerce extends modularity principles that empower business users to construct commerce experiences using low-code tools.

There are many benefits to a fully composable commerce platform, but big tradeoff for that extra freedom and flexibility. To succeed with fully composable commerce, you need a high degree of digital maturity and skilled IT resources. You can expect higher initial costs because this approach usually means stitching together multiple best-of-breed solutions, which brings another layer of complexity, from licensing costs to maintenance.

However, for the remaining 90% of businesses, SAP’s “fit for purpose” approach is more suitable: a front end that is decoupled from the back end (headless) through API integration, and modular, stable core functionality that is augmented by micro and macro services in areas of differentiation where high agility is required. This approach reduces delay, risks, complexities, and implementation costs so you can capitalise on the benefits quickly.

Unified commerce is the ability to handle all your digital commerce business from a single platform. This includes:

  • Engagement across channels (online, mobile, social, voice, and others)
  • Various business models (B2B, B2C, D2C, B2B2C, marketplace, subscription, recommerce, and so on)
  • Multibrand and multigeographical
  • Self-service coupled with the ability for human-assisted support
  • Comprehensive core capabilities from discovery to delivery with headless composability and extensibility for unique differentiators
  • Compliance, scalability, and increased security for the most complex businesses
  • Always-on reliability
  • Continuous innovation with regular updates along with compliance and security patches

With unified commerce, you can help your business grow without limitation on a single commerce platform.
