data intelligence with SAP Business AI
Centrica manages power generation, energy storage, trading operations, and millions of customer
accounts through 1,500+ applications and 20+ data lakes. Before this project, these systems operated
independently. When data was updated in one system, the changes didn't propagate to other systems
automatically. Teams replicated data to make it usable, but copies became outdated soon.
Teams spent thousands of hours reconciling outdated figures across dozens of systems — creating delays
that directly impacted trading decisions, capital allocation, and customer pricing. Finance leadership
needed long time to get consolidated views. Every second mattered. But our data didn’t keep up. What
followed wasn’t just an AI deployment — it was a fundamental redesign of how a 30-year-old energy
provider with a 200-year-old legacy thinks, decides, and operates.
Centrica deployed a governed data foundation with SAP Business AI. The resources performing manual
reporting tasks will now be able to be refocus on data modelling, predictive forecasting, and scenario
planning. Their work will include building models for optimal generation timing, storage decisions, and
trading strategies. Phase 2 will add transactional AI to automate data remediation. Correct Financial data in
each of the systems will allow each of the business units to take the correct decision increasing grid
optimization and profitability.
