Securitas: Gaining insight and supporting business transformation with SAP LeanIX
Securing a clear view of the IT landscape
Global security services provider Securitas AB needed better insight into and control over its large, decentralized enterprise application architecture. To support digital transformation, reduce risk, and improve agility, the Swedish company deployed SAP LeanIX solutions with the help of partner Konfident.

Creating a foundation for better-informed decisions
Headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden, Securitas is a leading provider of security services, with operations in 44 markets supported by more than 1,300 branch offices. With a workforce of more than 336,000 employees, the company provides security consulting, security personnel, monitoring, and response services for organizations in a wide range of sectors, including retail, healthcare, and aviation.
To achieve its goals of strengthening client centricity and becoming a data-driven, people-focused, and competitive business, Securitas recognized the need for digital transformation. But having so many employees spread across the world, along with a heavily decentralized IT department, made the process challenging.
The enterprise architecture team at Securitas consisted of a small number of people who used manual spreadsheet and slide development tools to map out the disparate IT and application portfolios. This process was neither scalable nor efficient. To make informed decisions, the company needed to establish a holistic view of its business capabilities and application architecture.
The team was looking for an enterprise architecture management tool that could help enable the following:
Increased visibility into how IT supports the business: Securitas has a large and complex IT and application portfolio spread across different regions and business units that was not centrally managed, limiting insight into which applications supported the business.
A better overview of redundant applications: Without proper visibility into its IT landscape, Securitas struggled to identify and rationalize redundant applications, leading to increased risk and rising costs.
Increased speed in responding to changing business needs: The inability to effectively plan a target architecture prevented Securitas from responding quickly to business transformation agendas. It needed reliable data to support decision-making.
Securitas wanted to deploy an enterprise architecture tool that would manage and provide visibility into its application and technology portfolio. Implementing the right solution would provide the transparency to map applications and technology against business capabilities, allowing Securitas to identify application overlap as well as cost-saving opportunities or potential risks. Above all, the right solution would help the company optimize its application and technology portfolio and make faster decisions from the insights gained.
Securitas conducted an extensive procurement process to find a cloud-based solution that offered an excellent user experience, intuitive integration with a cloud identity provider, and superior security capabilities. The company chose SAP LeanIX solutions for the management of its enterprise architecture.

Increasing visibility into IT assets
To help deploy SAP LeanIX solutions, Securitas chose implementation partner Konfident. The company helped Securitas prioritize resources and build the skills required to drive adoption of SAP LeanIX solutions across the wider community beyond the enterprise architecture function.
When implementing a digital transformation project, companies need comprehensive visibility into IT, applications, and data within the context of the overall enterprise. Konfident helped Securitas achieve this transparency, develop an enterprise architecture management (EAM) strategy, and implement the right technology. Using a combination of business insight, tool expertise, and recognition of the company’s unique requirements, Konfident helped Securitas develop strong EAM practices.
“Securitas remains in full control of decision-making, while we bring inspiration to the table, helping ensure continuous progress and user adoption while minimizing the strain on the internal organization,” explains Brian Halkjær, cofounder and CEO of Konfident.
Securitas initially deployed the SAP LeanIX Application Portfolio Management solution to conduct a baseline architecture assessment of its IT portfolio, inventory its applications, and accurately map business capabilities to each solution. To realize maximum value from its investment, Securitas needed additional company resources to help the business adopt SAP LeanIX solutions.
Konfident worked with Securitas to identify the business and IT stakeholders responsible for each application, who would become accountable for capturing and maintaining data in SAP LeanIX. The small EAM team grew from a handful of enterprise architects to numerous business champions who provide reliable data directly into the repository.
Securitas continues to use SAP LeanIX Application Portfolio Management to identify applications, an ongoing activity that is required due to the size and complexity of the organization. The company recently added business transformation management capabilities to support architecture planning. Konfident serves as an advisor, helping Securitas manage and change applications, document the integration landscape, and support business transformation. Together, Securitas and Konfident developed educational materials and trained various personas across the organization. Because it acts as a single source of IT truth for the organization, SAP LeanIX profoundly improved collaboration between business and IT, effectively supporting business transformation.

Elevating enterprise architecture management
The partnership between Securitas and Konfident has already delivered significant value. SAP LeanIX helped Securitas map applications and technology against business capabilities while providing the insight to support effective business transformation.
During the first six months of the SAP LeanIX rollout, the team incorporated more than 500 applications in the solution as the enterprise architecture team engaged with an initial group of senior stakeholders. Today, the inventory contains 1,600 applications, and the number continues to grow as even more stakeholders across the business engage with the EAM initiative.
As a result of these efforts, Securitas has realized the following benefits:
Enhanced data accuracy and relevancy: Securitas mapped applications and technology against its business capabilities to build a trusted, high-quality data source that supports continued transformation and informed decision-making. With improved data quality, Securitas can run reports that present insights and inspire constructive discussions with key stakeholders.
Improved visibility into the IT landscape: SAP LeanIX integrates with the company’s existing tech stack, functioning as the application master and providing a comprehensive view of the IT landscape. This transparency makes it easier to flag potential issues and identify opportunities for optimization. Different parts of the organization now have personalized dashboards, which help them identify areas for application rationalization and manage the business and technical risk. This best-practice data is shared and aggregated across the IT organization at Securitas.
Improved agility, collaboration, and communication: SAP LeanIX provides a platform for better collaboration and communication between teams. Securitas even created dedicated dashboards for different regions in the organization.
In addition, SAP LeanIX helped Securitas align applications with business capabilities so decision-makers can better understand how IT supports the business. The company is beginning to drive IT standardization, such as recommended applications and IT components for best-practice IT operations. SAP LeanIX also better supports overall business transformation by mapping programs and projects to the company’s business objectives and capabilities.
As adoption of SAP LeanIX grows and Securitas gains clarity about its enterprise architecture and how it supports the business, the company uncovers more opportunities to optimize and introduce best-practice IT. With that insight, the Securitas EAM team has planned a road map and defined ambitions for the next 12 to 18 months.
