Gain early visibility into availability of supply and external manufacturing
Gain early visibility
into availability of
supply and external
manufacturing
To meet the needs of dynamic markets, you must
respond quickly to changing circumstances. Integrating
your planning system with the SAP Business Network
Planning Collaboration solution enables digitalized
collaboration and transparency. You and your trading
partners can share requirements and commitments
in a more efficient and timely manner across plan-
to-deliver processes.
This results in better visibility, enabling you to flexibly
manage supply, fill rates, and buffer stock. Further,
automated processes help streamline workflows
to increase productivity and agility.
Transforming your supply chain requires tools that let
you:
• Extend your supply chain planning, ERP, and other
related systems to trading partners and benefit from
multiple options that support your unique approach
to direct materials planning—either finished goods
or component materials
• Obtain trading partner commitments over the planning
horizon with connectivity options that meet the needs
of trading partners of diverse sizes
• Gain manufacturing visibility into contract manufactur-
ing, contract packaging, tolling, and other key partner
activities
• Access an intuitive dashboard to more quickly identify
problematic responses from trading partners based
on your customized business rules
SAP Business Network Planning Collaboration helps
you and your trading partners align on supply and
demand planning throughout the planning horizon
(see Figure 1).

SAP Business Network Planning Collaboration
helps optimize collaborative forecasting in dis-
crete and process manufacturing by letting you:
• Provide visibility into forecasts, both uncon-
strained and constrained, for suppliers, contract
manufacturers, copackers, and other trading
partners from your supply chain planning and
ERP solutions, including packaged integration
with the SAP Integrated Business Planning
(SAP IBP) for Supply Chain solution
• Confirm feasibility of the current supply plan
by getting commitments in advance from your
trading partners
• Obtain visibility into external manufacturing to
equip your organization to work with multiple
tiers of trading partners
• Enable trading partners to report stock-on-hand
inventory so you can manage strategic compo-
nents and proactively detect supply disruptions
• Create alerts and escalations more easily in a col-
laboration dashboard driven by your business
rules
Connecting your systems and processes
with trading partner systems
SAP Business Network Planning Collaboration
offers comprehensive support for the systems
and processes you use to plan direct materials.
This includes support for either finished-goods
or component-materials plans developed in
SAP IBP, SAP S/4HANA, and third-party systems,
as shown in the following scenarios.
You can use SAP Business Network to share infor-
mation from SAP IBP with your trading partners,
who can then respond with their ability to commit
to the demand plan. This enables you to automati-
cally share digitalized forecasts with these partners.
There are two common scenarios, depending on
whether a full bill-of-materials (BoM) explosion is
required. Typically, planners require a BoM explo-
sion (including semifinished goods, components,
raw materials, and so on) if they are procuring
supplies directly from tier-two suppliers or external
manufacturers and packagers. This scenario is
illustrated in Figure 2.
