Without comprehensive integration across our systems and data, we wouldn’t be able to do what we are doing as a business. So, what SAP gives us is something that nobody else can.

Harmonizing data, processes, and experiences across 16 countries

Rizing, a Wipro Company, aims to turn organizations’ visions into reality through its real-world expertise and personal commitment to client success. It uses cloud solutions from SAP as well as geospatial solutions and proprietary products to help businesses of all sizes digitally transform.

Following strong organic growth and four strategic acquisitions in just a few years, the SAP partner found it too had transformed, having expanded to a midsize business with a presence in 16 countries and a global customer base. This growth also led to a fragmented mix of systems across areas such as finance, HR, customer relationship management, and project management, as well as cumbersome, nonintuitive processes reliant on spreadsheets and manual work.

Against this backdrop, gaining a consolidated—and accurate—view of data was a very arduous task involving multiple departments. Derek Risley, CEO of Rizing’s Human Capital Management line of business, says, “We had a real problem of data being entered multiple times. And, thus, the integrity of the data was suspect at all times.” As a result, Len Harms, the company’s chief experience officer, explains, “And so you spend a lot of time looking at reports just to make sure they’re correct as opposed to looking at them to do analysis.”

Specifically on the HR side, disjointed and largely manual processes greatly limited visibility into the global workforce. Rizing needed a common HR solution to help it operate as a flexible, unified, and engaged organization under one brand.

The company sought a robust platform on which it could pull its HR and other systems together, create one source of truth for reliable reporting and smart decision-making, eliminate the inefficiencies impacting the employee experience, and be agile to support future growth. It knew moving to the cloud was the right way to go.

SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition allows us to take all our information, get it to a single source of truth, and have robust reporting around it, slashing the amount of manual time and dexterity it takes to pull information out of the system.

Using HR as an entry point to the cloud

Rizing also understood that HR held the key to kick-starting this migration to the cloud. Anne Almy, global head of finance, explains,“Much of moving to the cloud has to do with getting your data cleansed and standardized. You can get the base data model fit not only from an HR payroll standpoint but also as you move to the finance area and beyond. As HR hits every employee, it’s also a good way to orient people as to what it’s like to work in the cloud.”

So, Rizing embarked on an HR transformation journey using the SAP SuccessFactors HCM suite to standardize and integrate HR processes and experiences across the growing global firm. The company first deployed the SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central solution to centralize employee data, aid better decision-making, and enable employee self-service. Following that, it deployed other solutions spanning recruiting, learning, and performance and compensation management.

Equipped with accurate, consistent data on its employees, Rizing then set out to migrate its ERP system to SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition. The ability to smoothly integrate other software, from SAP Customer Experience solutions and the SAP Analytics Cloud solution to the SAP workforce experience package by Qualtrics, was a huge benefit. And underpinning this integration was SAP Business Technology Platform (SAP BTP), which would help Rizing extend and personalize SAP software applications in its newly connected IT landscape.

Another advantage of SAP solutions was their ability to evolve with the company. As Harms explains, “Transparency and openness are absolutely one of the values of working with SAP. The other thing is the investment. SAP continues to invest in the solution. As you grow, as you move forward, as you buy, as you add capabilities, SAP will have the solution to support you.”

The figure shows how SAP BTP acts as the foundation for Rizing’s new IT landscape, supporting data and process integration between SAP S/4HANA and SAP SuccessFactors solutions.

Talent is our asset and our business. Being able to manage that talent through one smooth process for both leadership and employees using SAP SuccessFactors solutions really helps us drive the behaviors and results we’re looking for as a company.

Benefiting from consistent operations and decision-making

Now, Rizing has a standardized IT landscape that helps it smoothly integrate systems and data across the firm. As Harms explains, “We are able to use SAP BTP to really expand the solutions we’re offering our employees right across our ecosystem.”

Aligning operations has allowed Rizing to increase user productivity, enhance employee insights, reduce cycle times, minimize operating costs, and improve transparency. Rizing has simplified data management, with a team of three people previously committed to processing data now having time to analyze that data and use it to fuel good decisions.

On the financial side, integrating SAP SuccessFactors solutions and SAP S/4HANA means finance and payroll data input by HR teams is automatically updated in the finance system. Almy says, “SAP allows us to automate a lot of finance, streamlining transactional activity as well as validating and verifying that information. It allows us to stay lean and competent as a finance organization and to focus on the business, which is what we want to do. Ultimately, SAP has allowed us to save time, money, and effort with better functionality.”

Almy adds, “We’ve taken 15 to 20 days out of our monthly close process, and that’s yielded 15 to 20 days out of our receivables turnover. So, it not only has a process improvement in terms of efficiency and accuracy, but it also has a direct financial benefit of taking 15 days out of our working capital needs.”

In terms of sales, Rizing can more accurately target customer demand by looking at resources and availability. Teams can use dashboards and metrics to monitor sales revenue, better respond to customer inquiries, and assign the correct resources to projects. And having better information has even allowed Rizing to reorganize its sales department to be more responsive to the changing market.

As for HR, where Rizing’s journey to the cloud began, automation has enabled cost reductions and efficiency gains and freed staff to focus on strategic priorities while significantly increasing services, programs, and geographies served. Easy access to employee data with SAP Analytics Cloud has enhanced reporting and analytics, helping drive better decisions. And unified, employee-centered HR experiences foster a stronger employer brand.

Combining operational and experience data using experience management solutions supports a robust employee listening strategy and deeper insights. Rizing has also embedded organizational strategy into talent management processes through goal planning, continuous performance management, and compensation review, positively influencing behavior and employee outcomes.

Embracing the potential of an integrated environment

Rizing is continuing its journey to refine the IT landscape and add capabilities to support key areas. For example, on the resource management side, it has developed a weekly planning tool on SAP BTP that it intends to roll out across the business.

The company plans to link a skills database built in SAP SuccessFactors solutions to its project management tools to help get the right consultants with the right skills to the right projects at the right time.

As well as reducing manual work and enabling integrated reporting with a fit-for-purpose level of detail, Rizing’s truly connected SAP software landscape enables standardized and simplified processes across lines of business and countries of operation. In this way, it is empowering the company to achieve its strategic direction of “One Rizing” as it forges ahead to support clients’ needs and future growth.
