At SAP, we build breakthroughs, together.
Mid 2021 I celebrated my 5th anniversary in SAP. There have been some ups and downs on the road, but with the team’s support and my managers offering a helping hand whenever there was a need, the road was as smooth as possible.
Ivijan grew up in Croatia and gained a Master’s in computer science. Just before graduation he met a Polish exchange student who he later married. Ivijan is now a is a senior developer based in Gliwice, Poland and has been with SAP for five years having heard about SAP from a friend.
“I started as a UI developer specializing in styling UI components for an e-commerce project but over my time here, I have had the chance to try different projects, positions and technologies. For the last two years I have been working as a senior developer, mostly on projects that use Angular framework and Typescript language.”
How do you explain your role to your friends?
“When explaining to my friends and family what I do at work, I often joke about how I transform pictures into working web applications. In short, from wireframes and designs provided by UX designers, I create and develop functional and interactive web pages.
This role challenges me in multiple ways, as the final product (the user interface) has contact with users (live people) each with different tastes, opinions, and individual perspectives on the given topic. Often, as a developer, I need to find balance between usability, accessibility, and aesthetics in application development.”
What does success look like to you?
“Success for me usually means a successful team cooperation when delivering something new and innovative, trying to make life easier for people by improving the quality of the internet, one step at a time. Mid 2021 I celebrated my 5th anniversary in SAP. There have been some ups and downs on the road, but with the team’s support and my managers offering a helping hand whenever there was a need, the road was as smooth as possible.”
What do you like about SAP?
“Working for SAP showed me that even “open space” offices can feel comfortable and provide great working environments if the people that surround you are kind, respectful and passionate about their work, their colleagues, their personal hobbies, and interests.”
More about me
“I have wanted to work with computers since I was a child, but maybe if it were not for my passion for programming, I might have opened a pizza restaurant. I consider sport as important aspect of life, so I enjoy playing basketball, swimming, or attending training sessions for Iaijutsu - martial art of samurai sword. After work, I often play board games with friends and colleagues, play video games with my wife, or adding to my Lego collection.”
