Catering for rapid growth across multiple channels

Juewei Food Co. Ltd. is a braised snack food manufacturer operating under its own brand and one of the largest braised snack food chains with the largest number of stores in China. Established in 2005, the food manufacturer and franchise operator quickly became renowned in China for its delicious braised duck neck. However, this rapid growth presented challenges for Juewei’s legacy ERP system. In under two decades, the company had expanded to a network of more than 16,000 stores. Against this backdrop, Juewei’s commitment to “same-day orders, same-day production, and same-day delivery” placed stress on its supply chain, in which 22 production bases, including 4 under construction, must distribute goods across the country.

Meanwhile, growing online channels, including food-delivery platforms and social networks such as WeChat, produced one million orders each day, necessitating real-time data. Customers could also redeem e-gift cards and TikTok coupons in-store, complicating processes further.

All these changes meant Juewei urgently needed to bridge the online and offline realms with a faster supply chain and integrated, real-time transactional capabilities.

Embracing cloud ERP as the secret ingredient for success

Having used SAP software for more than a decade, Juewei had a high level of confidence in the solutions’ stability. The company decided to upgrade its IT landscape with a new digital foundation built on the private edition of SAP S/4HANA Cloud.

Working with the Customer Success organization, Juewei used RISE with SAP S/4HANA Cloud, private edition to implement its new software in just nine months. The company appreciated the offering’s cloud-based Internet-as-a-service, software-as-a-service, and platform-as-a-service layers. It knew a robust, real-time transaction system would help it handle tens of millions of transactions daily. And the new IT environment would alleviate the infrastructure operation, maintenance, and financial burden on Juewei’s self-built data center.

Using SAP S/4HANA Cloud, the company integrated production, warehouse logistics, procurement management, picking and distribution, and inventory management activities, supporting comprehensive chain and batch traceability. It also improved bill-of-materials management across its factories to help keep food product inventory up to date.

Crafting a recipe for growth with an efficient supply chain in the cloud

Aided by the private edition of SAP S/4HANA Cloud, Juewei has bridged data silos, reduced costs, and increased efficiency in its supply chain and infrastructure operations, supporting rapid growth.

A comprehensive supply chain system creates competitive advantage by better supporting sales outlets, speedy production supply, and maximum product freshness. Rapid and efficient distribution facilitates same-day orders, same-day production, and same-day distribution, safeguarding food safety, enhancing daily reporting, and enabling same-day sales and delivery to stores.

In addition, by analyzing core data across the supply chain, Juewei can access detailed cost accounting data and insights into consumers’ taste preferences. This helps it adopt lean production processes, continuously offer new regional products, and achieve consistent quality and taste.

Digital transformation has helped Juewei enhance its management systems and business models. In an era of Internet consumption, the company has embraced omnichannel commerce and expanded its brand portfolio. Now, Juewei not only sells its own branded products, but it is also building a gourmet food ecosystem and growing the core business based on its famous braised duck neck.
