Pandora manufactures and markets contemporary jewelry at accessible price points, selling over 100 million pieces a year in more than 100 countries through 6,400 points of sale, including more than 2,400 concept stores. Its jewelry is timeless, sophisticated, and rich with meaning.

Pandora saw an opportunity to create a better customer experience while enhancing operational efficiencies. By adopting a clean core strategy, the company could leverage standard processes and functions of ERP in the cloud while minimizing custom code, extensions, and custom integrations. The company looked to SAP for its innovative solutions and expertise in supporting its move to the cloud using the clean core approach.

Building a foundation for growth and more meaningful customer experiences

Pandora chose the RISE with SAP journey to accelerate its move to cloud ERP through SAP S/4HANA Cloud Private Edition. Transitioning to the cloud allows the company to use one ERP solution to streamline and automate sales and finance processes across the enterprise.

 

RISE with SAP Methodology has offered self-guided and assisted services and tools to help Pandora begin its migration journey. These included a standardized framework based on the SAP Activate innovation adoption process that provides a success plan and quality gates for a clean core. The integrated toolchain service also supported Pandora’s transformation to SAP Business Suite. This included implementing SAP Signavio solutions to support business process transformation, the SAP Test Automation solution by Tricentis, and the SAP Cloud ALM tool to provide cloud-based application lifecycle management. SAP Build solutions also help Pandora accelerate business application development with low-code, pro-code, and generative AI tools.

 

With SAP Business Technology Platform (SAP BTP) as its digital backbone, Pandora leveraged SAP Integration Suite on SAP BTP to effectively connect over 15 different systems, boosting integration and optimizing processes. The Event Mesh capability within the suite enables real-time data flow and response times between systems, helping ensure a consistent customer experience.

In particular, the Business Transformation and Architecture team at SAP is an integral part of the project, serving as a trusted advisor and helping ensure the business transformation meets best practices for a clean core approach.

Giving customers more to love about the Pandora experience

Pandora’s cloud ERP transformation is on the way to achieving its goal of creating a clean core for the company. With SAP S/4HANA Cloud Private Edition, Pandora has begun reengineering business processes based on best practices and will gradually standardize these processes across geographies.

 

While still early in its transformation journey, Pandora has seen several benefits related to samples and stock accuracy. This includes improved control and visibility of sample inventory by integrating it into the stock management system under a dedicated “nonsellable” store location, allowing access to this information at the store level. Pandora also achieved synchronization between SAP S/4HANA Cloud Private Edition and its point-of-sale system, helping ensure that central returns adjustments no longer impact store stock. There is also enhanced transparency in transaction flows, including improved daily sales tracking and monitoring of stock in transit.

 

The SAP Customer Activity Repository application has helped improve gift card reconciliation accuracy, enabling near-real-time transaction visibility for quicker error resolution. This also provides a detailed balance check between sales transactions and corresponding tender types.

 

Another goal of the project is to simplify processes for employees so they can spend more time with customers while also undertaking more innovative work that applies complex problem-solving skills, rather than working on repetitive tasks. With SAP solutions and embedded SAP Business AI capabilities, driving efficiency in this way will now be possible. Around 80% of the robotic process automations Pandora built for its shared service center are now standard functionality in its new SAP solutions.
