Frequently asked questions

SAP decided to sunset the SAP BTP, Neo environment because it was outdated. SAP BTP offers a variety of application environments that customers can choose from to build SAP application extensions and custom business solutions in the cloud. SAP BTP, Neo environment, is the oldest of these and is built on an SAP-proprietary technology stack. Since it was introduced in 2012, there have been many advances in cloud-native technologies. This older environment no longer provides the best technological path forward for SAP and our customers. The multi-cloud foundation for SAP BTP is our strategic focus for all investment going forward and has been the default environment for new customers since 2020.

SAP plans to provide as many equivalent services as possible in the multi-cloud foundation for SAP BTP. Some services won’t have a direct equivalent because we have updated our portfolio. SAP will continue to invest in migration packs, documentation, and services to simplify migration.

SAP stores customer and partner data using data storage and data persistence services, including those provided by our hyperscale partners. Cloud and security follow a shared responsibility model. Some security, risk, and compliance controls are handled by the infrastructure provider, while others are managed by SAP.
