Modernizing digital operations to support growth and scalability

A regional digital transformation leader, Gulf Business Machines LLC (GBM), is both a technology solutions provider and an exclusive distributor for IBM in the Gulf region. The company’s internal digital maturity directly impacts its credibility and its ability to guide customers through their transformation journeys.

When legacy ERP and middleware solutions started to limit scalability, agility, and real-time decision-making, GBM recognized the need to modernize its own internal systems to maintain operational excellence and customer relevance. This included enabling faster, more secure, and scalable integration across systems.

To meet these needs, the organization required a future-ready, cloud-based digital foundation that could streamline operations, accelerate innovation, and support a clean core strategy.

In parallel, with it aware of rapidly evolving customer and employee expectations, GBM also needed to enhance its sales and marketing capabilities, elevate the employee experience, and adopt advanced technologies to drive efficiency and personalization.

Building a cloud-first foundation with integrated innovation

GBM began its transformation by adopting RISE with SAP and moving to an SAP Cloud ERP Private solution. The solution provides a modern, modular ERP application and supports data sovereignty and control that are critical requirements for serving government and enterprise clients across the Gulf region. This approach became a cornerstone in GBM’s clean core strategy, helping it reduce technical debt and enable agility for future upgrades.

The adoption of SAP Integration Suite as part of SAP BTP enables faster, more secure, and scalable integration.

To transform commercial operations, GBM is implementing SAP Sales and Service Cloud as well as SAP CPQ and SAP Emarsys solutions, equipping its teams with tools for personalization and real-time engagement.

The company also integrated generative AI features, including the Joule capability to enhance SAP Cloud ERP Private, and activated AI embedded in SAP SuccessFactors solutions to personalize HR services and enable AI-driven career development.

Furthermore, the company configured the SAP Cloud ALM tool for governance and the SAP Build solution for low-code development.

Close collaboration with the enterprise architect for RISE with SAP proved to be a key enabler of the transformation by guiding GBM’s clean core road map, identifying optimal adoption sequences, and assisting with integrating AI into processes.

As part of the project, GBM launched a value realization initiative with SAP to measure outcomes and help ensure continuous innovation adoption.

Our collaboration with SAP goes far beyond implementation—it’s about co-innovation, continuous value realization, and building an adaptable foundation for the future.

Achieving faster, smarter, and more integrated operations

GBM’s digital transformation on an advanced and integrated digital foundation has delivered measurable improvements across its internal operations that directly impact business agility and competitive standing.

This includes enhanced customer engagement and employee satisfaction from unified data models, integrated processes, and personalized digital experiences across different touch points.

With SAP Cloud ALM providing visibility into operational health, GBM can manage system changes with minimal disruption while maximizing use of standard functionality. The company’s use of SAP Build will empower business users to prototype and deploy applications quickly, shortening innovation cycles and reducing IT backlog.

The clean core approach, supported by SAP Cloud ERP Private and SAP BTP, has helped focus innovation that can scale without complexity or accumulation of technical debt.

This commitment to clean core ERP means that future innovations from SAP, including advanced AI capabilities and industry-specific solutions, can be adopted rapidly without extensive customization efforts.

With ongoing strategic guidance from SAP through value realization and enterprise architecture advisory services, GBM can sustain and extend its leadership in digital transformation for itself and the customers it serves across the Gulf region. The transformation has strengthened GBM’s credibility as a digital transformation advisor, enabling the company to share real-world implementation experiences and best practices with customers.

As the partnership deepens through enterprise architecture advisory and value realization initiatives, GBM is exploring emerging technologies that will define the next generation of enterprise operations.

With SAP Cloud ERP Private and SAP BTP, we’ve not only transformed our operations—we’ve built the digital foundation to accelerate innovation for years to come.
