Scrum Master, Newport Beach, California
At SAP, we believe that when you bring everything you are, you can become everything you want.
The working culture here is nothing short of amazing. I’ve never worked with a more kind, compassionate, and driven team. Something I particularly love about our working culture is that no one ever puts you in a box and says you can only do x, y, or z. Instead, we always support and cheer each other on to learn and grow our skillsets.
I am a Scrum Master for SAP’s Industry Cloud team in Newport Beach, California.
As a Scrum Master, I work very closely with 2 cross-functional Scrum Teams focused on developing SAP Intelligent Trade Claims Management, a SaaS application in the consumer products industry. My job is to coach teams on Agile and Scrum practices and facilitate collaboration between engineering and product management. I also support teams in promoting a steady development flow from product requirement down to a potentially shippable increment of functionality that ultimately delivers value to our customers.
What excites me most about my role is having the opportunity to actively support and drive continuous improvement initiatives within our team and organization. I work alongside some pretty brilliant developers and product managers, who are empowered and engaged to not only take ownership of the work they do, but also how they do it to continuously improve the way we work together and operate. While this is not always easy, it has definitely been rewarding to see how these incremental and impactful changes over time have led us to bring more innovation and out-of-the box thinking to our product.
I first heard about SAP during my junior year of undergrad at Saint Vincent College in Latrobe, PA. My college is an SAP University Alliance and offered a training program to become a certified consultant in SAP Business One – a leading ERP solution for SMEs. I participated in the program in 2017 and upon graduation became a certified SAP Business One implementation consultant for an SAP partner. I really enjoyed working with SAP products and always knew I wanted to work directly in a development team for SAP.
What subsequently attracted me to SAP was getting to be a part of a brand-new team (Consumer Industries Cloud) that was on a mission to build a new product from the ground up. I always wanted the challenge to see and learn first-hand how business software is developed. Moreover, I really wanted to be surrounded by innovation and creativity, while learning the vital role they play in enhancing the customer experience. Overall, this team and role was the perfect fit for me to do just that.
The working culture here is nothing short of amazing. I’ve never worked with a more kind, compassionate, and driven team. Something I particularly love about our working culture is that no one ever puts you in a box and says you can only dox, y, or z. Instead, we always support and cheer each other on to learn and grow our skillsets. This was especially true in my own personal experience when I discovered an interest in learning frontend development. The frontend developers on my team have been very encouraging by giving me really great tips, tricks, and feedback. I even got to update a small piece of our UI in SAP Intelligent Trade Claims Management –something I never imagined and would never have been possible without the support of my fellow teammates.
So far, my best moment working at SAP would have to be seeing the full end-to-end flow of our beta release in September 2020. When I think back to when the team kicked-off last year, we were a much smaller team just starting to understand the business case and key value propositions, while testing out our assumptions. Seeing all the hard work of the past year come to fruition was a truly special moment for us as a team. I can’t wait to see where we’ll be in our journey next year.
Outside of work, I enjoy traveling and exploring new places I’ve never been before. When it is safe to travel again, I hope to go to South America, specifically Argentina. In the meantime, I enjoy getting outside by going to the beach and camping in various California National Parks. Recently, I’ve picked up golf as a new hobby.
