At SAP, we believe that when you bring everything you are, you can become everything you want.
I have really never worked with people who were so willing to take the time to teach me something as each of them are. It’s a joy getting to work with them each day, and I learn something new every day.
Jennifer Bryson started at SAP in 2020 as a Data Scientist in the Newport Beach office.
I’m originally from Albuquerque, New Mexico, but I moved to California to attend the University of California, Irvine’s PhD program in mathematics. Southern California is beautiful, so I was very happy to join SAP’sNewport Beach office which is just a 25-minute drive from where I was already living for grad school.
I joined SAP’s Eureka team because it offered such a unique and exciting opportunity for me. I knew it would be a great learning experience to be part of the newly created office and project, while also having the stability and reputation of SAP. I was also really excited to use machine learning to create an intelligent trade claim management tool.
My role changes periodically with the needs of a project. In the beginning I was mostly doing data exploration and python programming, but more recently I’ve been working on java backend engineering tasks. Starting with zero experience with java, the role has certainly challenged me. I’m excited by the changing nature of the role. It’s fun to work on different aspects of the project, and I learn a lot with each new task.
My whole team has been absolutely wonderful to work with and have all helped me learn and improve my skills immensely already. I have really never worked with people who were so willing to take the time to teach me something as each oft hem are. It’s a joy getting to work with them each day, and I learn something new every day.
In general, everyone here is incredibly nice. It’s amazing how kind every single person is, which makes for a great work culture all on its own. The Eureka team also sets aside 30 minutes at the end of every Friday for mingling with co-workers, which I really enjoy since I have the opportunity to talk to people that I might otherwise not interact with while doing my job. We call this FriYay! Everyone meets in the kitchen area and chats. Occasionally a group of people will stay and play games afterwards, and it’s always a really fun time. If I had to pick one single favorite moment, it would be playing Werewolf in the kitchen with a group of co-workers on the last day before the pandemic work-from-home began. I think it’s awesome to be part of a team where everyone is so nice and enjoys spending time with each other.
It's the office environment and culture that I love about SAP. Each person is a joy to work with, and I’m thankful for SAP initiating and encouraging this environment.
Outside of work, I love being outdoors, and my favorite activities are hiking and kayaking. I’m incredibly fortunate to live 4 blocks from the Pacific Ocean and the beautiful beaches, so I try to walk or jog on the beach at least a few times a week. SAP has a great work-life balance that I really appreciate. If money were no issue, I’d buy a house and make it carbon neutral. I also aspire to come up with solutions that help out the environment on a larger scale.
