Delivering essential food items to communities across Mexico
With a fleet of more than 600 tractors, Enlaces Terrestres Comerciales delivers food products to customers throughout Mexico. Working on behalf of its parent company, Proteína Animal S.A. de C.V. (PROAN), the logistics business also offers transportation services to organizations outside PROAN.
The use of manual processes and siloed IT systems meant that operations at Enlaces Terrestres Comerciales didn’t run as efficiently as it would like. The company didn’t have the visibility it needed to anticipate and address operational issues before they became problems. What’s more, a reliance on outdated legacy solutions resulted in high IT maintenance costs while limiting opportunities to take advantage of the latest technological innovations.
To address this, Enlaces Terrestres Comerciales looked for a centralized cloud ERP solution that would enable it to move processes online and support unified, streamlined workflows across the business.
Taking a structured approach to a big-bang implementation
Enlaces Terrestres Comerciales decided to implement an SAP Cloud ERP Private solution and embarked on the RISE with SAP journey. This saw SAP partner GO SCM+ Consulting S.A. de C.V. providing expert guidance throughout the preparation, go-live, and onboarding phases of the project. It also involved the use of RISE with SAP Methodology and the SAP Activate methodology, which presented a structured approach using best-practice-based road maps to help ensure a rapid and smooth transition to the new cloud ERP.
Following a “big-bang” implementation, Enlaces Terrestres Comerciales harmonized its operational processes based on a single, centralized instance of SAP Cloud ERP Private. Integration with banking, fleet telematics, HR, tax documentation, and fuel consumption management systems has removed data silos and means that employees can now access the information they need in one place.
The SAP Cloud ERP Private solution also supports the company-wide digitalization of processes that were once handled manually. Using SAP Business Network Supplier Portal for SAP Cloud ERP Private, clients can now upload service requests and purchase orders electronically. The new ERP solution generates transportation documents automatically and sends these to drivers using a messaging app. Meanwhile, a bot created using SAP Business Technology Platform sends invoices to clients automatically over SAP Business Network.
Improving fleet administration through digitalization
With integrated, digitalized processes supported by SAP Cloud ERP Private, Enlaces Terrestres Comerciales has improved administrative efficiency, optimizing the use—and profitability—of fleet resources. Enhanced destination information sent automatically to drivers means they now have the accurate directions they need to get orders to the correct locations, which has improved delivery times and service quality.
Supported by SAP Cloud ERP Private, the company now charges customers different amounts depending on the geographical zone for their delivery and the amount of space it takes up, resulting in fair and appropriate billing. The ability to manage and allocate shipping loads more precisely has also enabled Enlaces Terrestres Comerciales to increase the amount of cargo transported on return trips. This helps the company meet customer needs more efficiently while maximizing profits.
Meanwhile, digitalization is helping ensure that more customer orders are handled using best-practice-based workflows, enabling timely execution. In addition, comprehensive documentation of trips is helping ensure that the company has accurate records of all orders and can manage resources effectively.
