Elegant Watch & Jewelry (Elegant) was established in 1970 in Hong Kong as a luxury retailer specializing in high-end timepieces and fine jewelry. With more than 50 years of experience, the business has built a reputation for delivering a professional, quality service to discerning clients who are primarily based in Mainland China, Hong Kong, Asia, Europe, and the Americas.

 

The recent closure of its store in Macao, China, has left Hong Kong as the company’s sole physical retail location. Representing over 50 prestigious luxury brands—including Cartier and IWC Schaffhausen—Elegant offers comprehensive sales, aftersales support, and in-house repair services through a dedicated technical team. Its employees undertake regular on-the-job training covering product history, brand knowledge, and customer engagement skills to ensure a premium buyer experience.

 

Prior to 2019, Elegant used an on-premises, third-party ERP system that was licensed as a one-time purchase. Storing data locally along with a lack of software upgrades limited the company’s scalability and agility. The business sought a solution that would allow it to better manage its data and optimize its sales and logistics processes in particular.

Pioneering the deployment of SAP Cloud ERP in Hong Kong

Elegant Watch & Jewelry migrated to an SAP Cloud ERP solution as part of a broader digital transformation initiative led by its parent company. After evaluating multiple vendors, the Chinese IT leadership team chose to implement the solution to optimize its Hong Kong operations by giving logistics and finance staff in the corporate office access to real-time information. As the first company in the city to adopt SAP Cloud ERP, the ERP instance operates independently of its headquarters.

 

The migration was executed under a tight timeline of approximately 12 to 16 weeks from project kickoff to the go-live event. Implementation partner IVC Solutions Limited (IVC) played a pivotal role in the deployment. It extended a point-of-sale (POS) system that is integrated with data from SAP Cloud ERP. Due to data sensitivity, store associates use this POS interface rather than interacting directly with the cloud ERP solution. IVC supplied data migration templates for materials, pricing, and stock levels, and provided ongoing support after the go-live event, particularly supporting software upgrades during the first two years.

 

Elegant also engaged with SAP Preferred Success services, which provided valuable support through regular newsletters highlighting the latest release features, introductions to AI-enabled tools such as the Joule solution, and guidance on adopting best practices from SAP. The migration was largely seamless from a user perspective, and the challenges in data upload accuracy and system performance tuning were dealt with efficiently.”

Enhancing reporting, analytics, procurement, and supplier relationships

Since adopting SAP Cloud ERP, Elegant has seen significant improvements in its sales and logistics areas. Real-time access to sales, inventory, and financial data enables faster and more-informed decision-making, driving its competitiveness. And quarterly upgrades and robust technical backing provide system stability, support, and access to innovative new features, including AI.

 

The company can better manage its inventory and consignment-in and consignment-out processes to meet its customers’ needs. It can now extract data from SAP Cloud ERP and generate comprehensive, accurate consignment status reports within 15 minutes. As Mo highlights, “It’s not just faster but also gives us live data, so we can check a consignment status at any time. This increases efficiency in tracking our stock movements.” Using inventory and consignment reports to quickly identify slow-moving items, such as those unsold for more than 700 days, lets Elegant mark down or promote certain products in a timely manner.

 

Logistics and finance teams can use centralized reports for stock lists and sales listings to monitor inventory status, repair items, and customer deposits. This allows more-precise ordering and helps avoid overstocking items. By moving from a “just-in-case” to a “just-in-time” inventory model, Elegant has reduced its inventory holding cost year on year by up to 20%. Elegant can use analytics to forecast demand with greater accuracy and achieve better control over its inventory costs. Using SAP Cloud ERP has helped the business minimize its administrative overheads, costly and time-consuming errors, and manual work.

 

Elegant has adopted a standard process to receive, inspect, and store its stock. Being able to view total inventory across its multibrands in one place helps the company optimize storage space and streamline internal logistics. Further, by automatically matching purchase orders, goods receipts, and supplier invoices, the company has reduced invoice processing time and can now issue payments accurately and on time, strengthening supplier relationships.
