Alongside SAP’s product strategy and road map, partner innovation is a key pillar in our strategy to enable organizations to become intelligent enterprises. Using the technical foundation provided by SAP Business Technology Platform (SAP BTP), we work together with our partners to extend and integrate SAP applications to meet unique organizational needs and digitalize business processes.
For more than 15 years, SAP Co-Innovation Lab has been a bridge between SAP and our innovative ecosystem. We help our partners convert ideas for solutions for intelligent enterprises into working prototypes and from there to market-ready solutions.
From 14 worldwide locations, SAP Co-Innovation Lab is delivering a new, accelerated innovation experience for SAP partners in line with our Next-Generation Partnering initiative. One of our most prominent projects is the Hack2Build initiative to support rapid prototyping, use-case exploration, and technology adoption.

Hack2Build – Beyond a Hackathon
The pandemic has upended the way we engage with our innovation ecosystem. SAP Co-Innovation Lab has defined new ways to support the full spectrum of co-innovation. We have introduced a new prototype-to-value approach, called Hack2Build.
The initiative is designed with partners’ current needs in mind. We want to support innovation in meaningful ways so that, together with our partners, we are able to help customers transition to the cloud in a defined manner.
Hack2Build is a modern and results-driven format that takes the idea of a traditional hackathon one step further. The focus moves from strengthening and showcasing tech savviness in a particular domain toward delivering functioning solution prototypes with definite customer value.
The uniqueness of our approach lies in the combination of the power and productivity of a highly collaborative, intense hackathon paired with follow-up activities focusing on solution completion and commercialization. In this way, we complete the full cycle from solution idea to delivery.
Partner Innovation Day – Sharing insights
In addition to our Hack2Build events, SAP Co-Innovation Lab continues to bring the latest news on SAP technology topics to the regional partner ecosystem by holding virtual partner innovation days. As well as providing the latest information on partnering, partner services, and partner success stories, these events connect us and prepare the ground for joint innovation activities to help our customers run even better.
Realization coaching – helping ideas become reality
Coming from Hack2Build or having been inspired by our Partner Innovation Days or other offerings from Partner Ecosystem Success, SAP Co-Innovation Lab offers realization coaching as a service. Connect with the SAP Co-Innovation Lab (COIL) team and chosen SAP expert(s) to be coached on the realization of your solution idea that implements a concrete use case and has significant potential to be implemented by customers. The service consists of three pillars – technical architecture coaching as foundation; prototyping support, if required; and the actual realization coaching during the build phase of your solution. Submit your request to your partner success manager who will involve the SAP Co-Innovation Lab team in your region to review your solution proposal.

Accelerating innovation with Hack2Build
With its first Hack2Build event on side-by-side extensions for SAP S/4HANA Cloud in 2021, SAP Co-Innovation Lab initiated an avalanche of innovation coming from SAP’s ecosystem. It was a virtual event but with real results. More such events continue to take place with many regional Hack2Build events throughout the year. Localizing healthcare for Africa
Our SAP Co-Innovation Lab in Africa supported new SAP partner Converge Solutions in creating a localized version of the SAP for Healthcare solution portfolio. The fully integrated solution fulfilling back-office and clinical demands of the healthcare industry meets the requirements of the African market.
Keeping highways safe
In the joint “TWAREG” project with our SAP Co-Innovation Lab for EMEA North, not-for-profit organization GS1 developed a solution for tire lifecycle management. The solution includes tire warranty management, retread guidance, and tracking, and it uses radio frequency identification as well as blockchain to identify overused truck tires and approve tire repair.
