1 Due to rounding, the sum of the numbers presented in the table might not precisely equal the totals we provide.
Starting 2021, we disclose a granular 'Reusage and WEE' data based on the results of a project to leverage the reporting capabilities of our large IT asset lifecycle partners. Consequently, there is no reusage and WEEE breakdown available prior to 2021. For more information see our Integrated Report, section "Waste and Water". The evolvement of our data collection and calculation methodology is described in our Integrated Report, section "Non-Financial Notes: Environmental Performance". This work has been the fundament to establish SAP's new commitment to strive towards zero e-waste in our own operations by 2030 which was announced with the release of SAP's updated Environmental Policy
2 In 2023, to better track our e-waste global goal and to be in alignmnet with ESRS directives, we adjusted the e-waste treatment definitions and classification as follow:
Waste of Electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE / e-waste) means all the discarded electrical and electronic devices.
Waste diverted from disposal
a. Reusage (top priority): Refurbishing and reselling functioning devices to give it a second life.
b. Reycling (second priority – previously called “mechanically recycling”): Extracting raw materials to preserve and reuse them (such as plastics, metals, and rare earths)
Waste directed to disposal
a. Incineration with/without energy recovery (previously called “thermal recycling”): Generating energy through the incineration of waste
b. Landfill: Disposing waste on a landfill site (we strive to avoid this treatment as much as possible)
3 The category of "Waste diverted from disposal" is crucial to track the SAP's commitment to strive towards zero e-waste in our own operations by 2030 expressed in our Global Environmental Policy.
