Functional Capabilities

Enterprise-grade API security, traffic management, and monitoring

Deliver APIs with modern authentication, authorization, and security policies to effectively secure access to your data and services.

Real-time analytics from SAP Cloud Platform

Analyze usage metrics, errors, latency, and performance through a simple and intuitive Web interface – and gain insight into where to invest resources in the future.

API platform

Leverage a dedicated API platform for creating and consuming APIs – whether you are a service provider building API proxies or are an app developer using APIs, SDKs, and other convenience services.

Analytics services

Use powerful analytics to spot short- and long-term API usage trends – segmented by audience, top developers and apps, and API method. Create custom reports on business or operational-level information, and determine where to invest next.

Developer services

Create a developer portal for your publicly available API products – and use flexible tools to manage the community of developers using your services. Onboard and work with internal and external developers, and formalize these relationships with financial models.

Co-innovation opportunities

Co-innovate with partners and customers to create custom apps and open new business channels.

Technical Capabilities

API platform: Two different audiences use SAP Cloud Platform, API management and its services: service providers who create API proxies and API products to expose back-end services, and app developers who consume these API proxies and products to create apps for mobile and desktop devices. Client app developers also use our API platform for data persistence and management.

Management user interface (UI):  The UI provides browser-based tooling that lets you perform most of the tasks necessary to create, configure, and manage API proxies and products. It offers tight integration with SAP Gateway technology for Open Data Protocol services.

API security: SAP Cloud Platform, API management provides XML and JSON threat protection, as well as message validation policy for XML Schemas (XSDs) and WSDL definitions.

HTTP header filtering and expression validation: The mediation policies that can be defined and associated with an API or service enable extraction, filtering, and manipulation of messages – including headers, URI paths, payloads, and query parameters.

Rules enforcement: The software’s API runtime offers fine-grained policy definition and enforcement at the API resource level (e.g. URIs and HTTP verbs).

Identity and access management: SAP Cloud Platform API management lets you leverage any external identity provider for authentication and authorization, including Active Directory. It supports the following authentication mechanisms:

  • SAML 2.0: Generate and validate SAML assertions – and use the API platform as an identity provider as well as a service provider.
  • OAuth: Configure and enforce OAuth authorization using out-of-the box policies.
  • Client certificate: Use Client SSL to authenticate and encrypt all messages flowing over the network – from SAP Cloud Platform, API management to back-end services.
  • Key and certificate management: Create keyStores and trustStores to provide any necessary keys and X.509 digital certificates.
