Branching out supply chain traceability and transparency using ERP data
Grounded in a storied gold-rush past and surrounded by fertile plantations, Celulose Nipo-Brasileira S.A. (CENIBRA) demonstrates a deep-seated commitment to Brazilian ecological reserves through its evolving sustainability strategy. Based in Minas Gerais, the company has an annual production capacity of 1.2 million tons of bleached eucalyptus pulp and exports 98% internationally, earning its place as a key player in the global pulp market.
With the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) on the horizon, CENIBRA needed to create robust traceability and transparency across its entire supply chain. Streamlining the compliance process would also require communication and submission support for due diligence statements (DDS) to the Trade Control and Expert System (TRACES), the digital gateway for regulated products in the EU.
The company needed a solution capable of integrating business data sitting in ERP systems and reliable enough to track raw materials to final pulp product, all while meeting evolving compliance obligations.

Carving a clear path to compliance and wood origin identification
To reinforce the company’s commitment to responsible environmental practices and compliance with international standards, CENIBRA chose the SAP Green Token solution and selected OSH PRO S.R.L., a recognized and respected SAP partner, to lead the implementation.
The initial phase focused on understanding CENIBRA’s operational processes to configure a system that would unify data and align with EUDR compliance must-haves such as supply chain transparency and traceability. Compliance with the EUDR means all products sold in the EU must be accompanied by DDS that prove origin without deforestation and certify wood production in accordance with the laws of the country of origin. The EUDR also requires companies to submit DDS documentation to TRACES, the compliance portal behind the EUDR.
Establishing a unified data source for reporting would require merging ERP and sustainability data—a crucial aspect of the project. The ERP integration would allow CENIBRA to improve its approach to wood origin identification by embedding sustainability data into the supply chain.

Strengthening the fiber of wood production through smart allocation
The first customer in Latin America to go live with SAP Green Token, CENIBRA was able to achieve EUDR compliance by harmonizing ERP, raw materials, and geolocation data. With integrated data, the company can provide tracking and move from the “first in, first out” method to smart allocation—a rules-driven logic using attribute filters within SAP Green Token.
CENIBRA can now identify the batch of wood used in its final products. Standard functionality within SAP Green Token provides attribute filters, such as pulp lot, to define and link specific wood batches used to produce each pulp batch. This allows the solution to allocate the corresponding wood tokens to the resulting pulp tokens, enabling traceability as well as segregated accounting across the production flow. Deforestation-free certification can be accomplished using DDS documentation for TRACES submission.
The company can manage multiple sites and standard declarations while using reporting capabilities to trace and record raw material attributes throughout the production process and shipments to Europe. CENIBRA can also include product details in its customer invoices, creating transparency and trust.
Leaving a legacy of deforestation-free business practices
Recognized for its commitment to sustainable forestry practices, environmental stewardship, and social responsibility, CENIBRA is committed to circularity principles and plans to repurpose wood waste using reporting results from SAP Green Token. The company is also looking to refine processes, reduce waste, and make adjustments to accommodate shipments outside of Europe. CENIBRA is now well positioned to continue its EUDR trajectory and prepare for other guidelines, such as the EU’s Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
