Integrating business processes onto a single interface – a logistical control tower – with SAP Business Network for Logistics gives us necessary visibility into business operations, including logistics costs as well as enhanced and transparent collaboration with our logistics service providers.

Gaining visibility into daily operations and product profitability

Al Dahra Holding LLC is responsible for food and animal-feed supply chain logistics from its home in the United Arab Emirates to countries and continents around the globe. With shipping lines in motion worldwide, the company needed greater visibility into orders, suppliers, shipping partners, and the whereabouts of any given shipment at any given time. Manual daily business operations such as tracking and tracing shipments, as well as the associated transportation invoicing and dispute management, could no longer provide results with the transparency and speed that Al Dahra required.

Processes had become too complex for a growing and diversifying company with an expanding network of partners and customers. Users had to log into multiple platforms and Web sites to place bookings and retrieve tracking data, making the task very time-consuming. Additionally, the logistics team did not have a clear view of the overall logistics costs ahead of time.

To continue growing and serving customers efficiently, Al Dahra needed a digital solution to connect the company internally as well as with its partners and clients around the world. That solution had to be easily integrated and intuitive for a wide range of users with varying needs, and it had to bring transportation and supply chain business processes together on one platform – on a logistics control tower.

Unifying processes on a single standardized platform using solutions from SAP has enabled greater collaboration across the organization as well as facilitated smoother partner interactions.

Implementing a logistics control tower for greater business insight

By integrating the SAP Business Network Freight Collaboration and SAP Business Network Global Track and Trace solutions, part of the industry cloud portfolio, into the company’s existing system, Al Dahra established the foundation of its logistics control tower. The logistics control tower enables a steady flow of goods to carry out supply plans. With support from SAP Services and Support, Al Dahra onboarded 19 carriers to use solutions within SAP Business Network for Logistics. This unified solution provides a standardized user interface and enables the company to automate daily business operations such as transportation booking, invoicing, and dispute management.

Al Dahra’s digital business transformation provides visibility, transparency, and performance insight into shipping operations. This helps reduce manual processes and optimize product profitability. SAP Business Network Freight Collaboration and the SAP Transportation Management application enable collaboration across offices and shipping facilities, making data and information immediately available when it used to be manually sourced and relayed. Previously time-consuming supply chain logistics tasks are now automated and accelerated with these solutions that are part of integrated logistics solutions from SAP.

Optimizing supply chain logistics for increased profit and collaboration

With the integration of SAP Business Network Freight Collaboration, SAP Transportation Management, SAP Business Network Global Track and Trace, and other offerings from SAP, Al Dahra opened each corner of its vast logistical network to greater visibility. This visibility and collaborative reach enabled by SAP solutions has accelerated growth, improved customer experiences, streamlined partner interaction, made business operations more agile and efficient, and granted insight into the profitability of each facet of the business.

Tracking and tracing shipments is faster and easier now, granting visibility into door-to-door costs compared to the previously limited port-to-port visibility of only landed costs. Automated transportation booking and invoicing processes reduce the cost of day-to-day operations and increase the speed and efficiency of running the company, allowing Al Dahra to optimize container booking rates and identify shipping availability.

User adoption is the key to implementation, and when users see how the power of the engine improves their day-to-day and makes it easier, they really see the direct benefit of learning and adopting this new technology.

Accelerating integration of complementary solutions for greater growth

Al Dahra plans to build on the digital infrastructure and is already working globally to standardize the digital processes established. The company will continue integrating solutions from SAP to achieve greater visibility for supply and demand as well as the ability to collaborate using a single platform. Plans also include initiatives to source fertilizers and other products from farmers, all with a focus on sustainability and creating opportunities and supporting local economies in developing countries. Al Dahra’s digital transformation will provide the backbone for integrating and building the network of suppliers, partners, and customers in a way that primes them all for growth.
