The Challenge

Modernizing an IT landscape for a sustainable future

Infrastructures and mobility holding company Atlantia engages in motorway and airport infrastructures and services related to mobility and payment systems. The company manages five airports, including the Fiumicino and Ciampino airports in Italy and the Nice Côte d’Azur airport in France, with more than 60 million passengers in transit each year, and it collects payments for 10,000 kilometers of toll highways and other value-added services (such as parking, the sky pass, and more) through its dedicated company, Telepass S.p.A.

 

Following a divestment from its parent company, Atlantia needed to transform its technology environment to become autonomous and independent.

 

As a top priority, the holding company wanted to establish a modern and future-ready technology foundation while simplifying IT infrastructure management and maintenance. Atlantia’s goal was to move from an on-premise environment to a greenfield cloud-first infrastructure, allowing for agility, scalability, and simplicity in management and maintenance.

 

With a newly appointed CIO, the company sought a strong technology partner and aligned with SAP’s vision for an intelligent, sustainable enterprise built on advanced technologies and best practices within agile, connected business processes.

RISE with SAP S/4HANA Cloud, private edition allowed us to create our business environment quickly, and thanks to support from SAP, we were able to go live in a much shorter time frame than initially planned, providing significant value in terms of time to market and costs.

The Solution

Building a sustainable technology landscape that’s light to maintain

Recognizing SAP as the most suitable technology partner to address its needs now and over the long term, Atlantia made the decision to invest in the RISE with SAP solution, including the private edition of SAP S/4HANA Cloud, running on Amazon Web Services (AWS).

 

This move allows the company to adopt future-ready technology in the cloud and take a proven path to the Intelligent Enterprise managed by SAP and running in its preferred cloud environment.

 

To create its greenfield implementation of advanced technologies and connected, agile processes, Atlantia joined forces with partner Accenture to integrate SAP’s suite of solutions for finance, procurement, and human capital management.

 

In finance, the technology stack includes the SAP S/4HANA Cloud solution for treasury and risk management and the SAP Financial Closing cockpit.

 

And for human experience management, the company adopted the SAP SuccessFactors Human Experience Management Suite.

The Result

Achieving a fast implementation, going live within six months

Having digitalized its operations using the private edition of SAP S/4HANA Cloud on AWS infrastructure, Atlantia has seen immediate benefits from using cloud solutions from SAP. The next-generation business practices are enabling innovation and sustainability initiatives to gather speed. At the same time, collaboration and reporting with subsidiaries, suppliers, and public administrations is now more timely and efficient and lighter on resources. Further, integration across solutions provides an end-to-end view of operations and has resulted in more-reliable data, a lower total cost of ownership, and a rapid ROI.
