Project Manager, SAP Customer Experience
At SAP, we believe that when you bring everything you are, you can become everything you want.
Success to me is finding the balance between what I am passionate about and how it creates an impact on the world.
As a young girl growing up in Hangzhou China, I was an exception to the common local belief that girls were not competent in math or science. While most of my classmates chose other disciplines for their graduate studies, I opted to study Software Engineering from the Funan University. It was the time of the technology boom – our daily life was influenced by technology and I knew I wanted to be at the center of it all.
During my University days, I heard about a company called SAP with a great work culture and focus on providing an equal opportunity for growth and development. The world class facilities on campus like the cafeteria and gym was a big plus too. I was fortunate to join SAP straight out of University in 2012 and this is my 7th exciting year with the company.
I now work with the CX organization in Shanghai as a project manager. CX is the fastest growing business within SAP it enables our customers to have the right tools and technology to win over their customers. The CX team runs at a very fast pace and innovation happens every moment. We have very enthusiastic colleagues who are always ready to embrace those changes and take those calculated risks to ensure that our customers, and our SAP teams are successful.
At SAP, we are constantly encouraged to make a difference. #BeBold is the mantra. My opinion and feedback are always welcomed by my manager and my team. My transition to a project manager role was quite challenging. I was working with colleagues who had many more years of experience than I did. However, the transition was smooth thanks to the support of these colleagues who were very flexible and open to helping me along the growth journey.
Sticking to being bold, I vividly remember an incident recently when I took over as the project manager for a very big customer for their global online commerce site rollout. We operated with a lot of constraints – tight timelines, complex requirements, and regulations. I was quite stressed, however I decided to make a few changes in the way we operate. I encouraged my team to have transparent and collaborative conversations with the customer and we were finally able to work out an optimized project plan. The customer launched the online channel on time and it was a huge success for them.
Success to me is finding the balance between what I am passionate about and how it creates an impact on the world. At SAP, I learnt to broaden my horizon and think big. Each little experience energizes the continuous learning journey. As our vision and purpose says, we are constantly innovating and ensuring we help the world run better. And not forgetting the impact we have on the day to day life of people. My advice to any SAP aspirant – Be Bold, be flexible and cultivate a growth mindset – SAP will take care of the rest.
