45The Platform Revolutionizing Access toOpportunities for Young PeopleLaunched by the UN Secretary-General at the 2018 UN General Assembly and led by UNICEF, GenerationUnlimited (GenU) is a global Public-Private-Youth Partnership. It unites Heads of State, CEOs, UN agency leaders,civil society champions, and young people to co-create and scale innovative solutions for global challenges.Our partnership with GenU, launched in 2019, is dedicated to equipping young people with quality education, lifeskills, and job training. With a focus on workforce readiness, the collaboration targets disadvantaged communities,preparing youth for meaningful employment and active citizenship. Together, we aim to develop standardized nationalcurricula and conduct in-depth research to strengthen connections between the private sector and future talent.The most recent report highlights that GenU reached 64 million young people across 50 countries, empoweringthem with opportunities to transition from learning to earning. These efforts spanned three key areas: Skills and Employment: Over 45.4 million young people benefited, with 900,000 achieving milestones likeapprenticeships, work experience, or job placements. Entrepreneurship: 1.2 million young people participated in entrepreneurial training, innovation challenges,and startup programs, with 125,000 creating and growing businesses. Social Impact: 17.2 million youth engaged in civic participation, volunteering, and environmental action, with67% of programs focused on green initiatives like water conservation and waste management.GenU prioritizes digital, green, and gender equity: 69% of programs advanced digital inclusion and skills. 62% supported green jobs and environmental action. Over half (51%) of participants were young women, reflecting increased gender-sensitive programming. 46YOMAA standout initiative under the GenU partnership is YOMA, a digital marketplace connecting youth withopportunities for social impact tasks, skills training, and earning pathways. YOMA bridges gaps in educationand employment by providing access to digital skilling, internships, and training programs throughcollaborations with private sector partners, NGOs, and educational institutions.Core Pillars of YOMA:1. Youth-Centric Design: Developed in collaboration with African youth, YOMA addresses barriers likefragmented opportunities, offering a cohesive ecosystem for learning-to-earning pathways.2. Strategic Partnerships: Through partnerships with organizations like SAP, YOMA provides training, jobplacements, and resources via an extensive public-private network.3. Pathways to Success: YOMA equips young people with structured opportunities, including digital literacyprograms, community projects, and direct access to employment and entrepreneurship avenues.4. Technology-Driven Solutions: The platform uses digital identity (YoID), blockchain for transparency, anddata analytics to validate skills, ensuring fair access to opportunities. Incentives like digital tokens enhanceengagement and development.Currently active in seven African countries, YOMA has registered over 434,600 users and facilitated 51,000+certifications. Through the SAP Educate to Employ initiative, SAP has been instrumental in advancing YOMA’stechnology and creating targeted pathways for youth skilling and employability, driving meaningful impactacross the continent.Build Future Skills
