Connecting applications to share information in a more streamlined manner
Founded in 2010, Aegea Saneamento is one of Brazil’s largest private sanitation companies, supplying water treatment services to more than 33 million people in over 760 cities. Aegea manages sanitation assets through full or partial common concessions, subconcessions, and public-private partnerships. It oversees public concessions in the entire water cycle, including the supply, collection, and treatment of sewage according to the profile and needs of each town.
As a result of federal law, the country’s sanitation market has undergone a significant transformation over the past few years, and it no longer comprises only public companies. The market must improve water quality and the water treatment process by 2033 so that 99% of the population has access to water and 90% of water is correctly treated. Aegea strives to be recognized as the global benchmark and best company in developing and managing the sanitation business in Brazil.
Operating in 15 Brazilian states poses geographical challenges, and Aegea used different software solutions in each state. The company had multiple data integrations and applications in its IT landscape and relied on Microsoft Excel spreadsheets for reporting. Significant effort was required to provide information to its stakeholders in the supply, planning, and financial areas, such as banks and investors. It wanted to be able to share data in a straightforward and fast way by connecting its IT infrastructure.

Improving financial analytics and transparency
Aegea adopted the SAP Datasphere solution, along with the add-in for Microsoft Excel for SAP Analytics Cloud, to enable advanced analytics. The company already uses SAP S/4HANA to manage accounting information, such as invoices and payments, and third-party software to provide other invoicing data. By building a business data fabric and integrating its ERP application and third-party software with SAP Datasphere, Aegea can take advantage of the solution’s connectivity functionalities to create financial data models. These models are then visualized in interactive reports in SAP Analytics Cloud.
For example, the utility provider can clearly monitor how it’s spending the money invested in the organization, helping it justify both actual and planned spending and produce detailed reports.
The SAP Datasphere and SAP Analytics Cloud solutions are part of SAP Business Technology Platform (SAP BTP). As well as implementing the platform for certain use cases, Aegea is deploying SAP Ariba solutions.

Enhancing data management
The add-in for Microsoft Excel for SAP Analytics Cloud offers dynamic reporting by enabling the creation of documents in Microsoft Excel populated with data from SAP solutions. This integration not only provides exceptional flexibility in presenting and analyzing information, but it also significantly simplifies analysis and reporting processes, making them more efficient.
Direct, live connectivity between SAP software and Microsoft Excel improves data import and export. The add-in enables the consolidation of information previously only available through reports from several different transactions. It provides access to data in real time and instant information updating. By analyzing the data in SAP Analytics Cloud, Aegea can cross-check it and identify posting inconsistencies with parameterized business rules, greatly increasing information reliability.
For capital expenditure (CapEx) financial planning, the add-in for Microsoft Excel gives a detailed view of investment finance spend that can’t be achieved directly through reports or transactions in SAP software. The ability to create custom reports in Microsoft Excel allows visualizations tailored to the specific requirements of financial planning and other related areas. Real-time updating is crucial for adjusting financial projections as changes occur. Combining the add-in for Microsoft Excel with specific capabilities for CapEx analysis significantly improves operational efficiency by reducing the time spent preparing reports and enhances strategic decision-making.
With the functionalities delivered by SAP Datasphere and SAP Analytics Cloud, the company can now access and share this data in a fast and simple way. And it can operate confidently, knowing that the data is accurate, reliable, and trustworthy. This enhances communications and strengthens data management.

Continuing the digital transformation journey
As part of the digital transformation road map currently being discussed with the business areas, Aegea is looking into the benefits of producing other types of reports. The company is mapping out opportunities to further engage with SAP BTP using SAP Integration Suite and the SAP Build Process Automation solution in particular (both of which run on SAP BTP). It’s also considering deploying the planning capabilities in SAP Analytics Cloud, integrating them with SAP Datasphere, and capitalizing on the user experience of SAP Ariba solutions to enable a dashboard at the front end.
