Seeking greater flexibility, security, and scalability across IT
MAIRE is at the forefront of the global energy transition. Its expertise and technologies help reduce the environmental impact of the oil and gas sector, convert fuel and plastics to renewable alternatives, and transform waste to chemicals, fuel, and recycled products.
The industrial group, which relies on approximately 8,300 employees and is supported by 20,000 people engaged in its projects in over 45 countries around the world, needs agile processes and scalable, secure solutions to react quickly to fast-changing markets while expanding across the world. But its existing on-premise IT landscape did not offer this flexibility. IT operations were run internally while external partners managed application maintenance and SAP software. What’s more, disaster recovery architecture was limited to the ERP system.
With its own ambitious carbon neutrality targets for 2030 and 2050 in mind, the group adopted a new approach. The group’s objectives were to transform its business and IT partnerships, put security first within a comprehensive cloud strategy, replace its database software with a more cost-effective alternative, and safeguard compliance while maintaining business continuity.
MAIRE knew there was a compelling case to move to the cloud. The only questions were how and when.

Streamlining and integrating the IT landscape in the cloud
Two key factors led MAIRE to choose RISE with SAP S/4HANA Cloud Private Edition to accelerate its digital transformation and support its decarbonization targets.
First, the solution’s one-partner, one-contract approach would simplify governance of the contract and holistic cloud technology operations by delegating these to SAP. MAIRE could choose the hyperscaler as its new cloud infrastructure, reduce operational costs, focus on revenue-generating activities, and better support ISO 270001 compliance.
Second, SAP’s shared commitment to sustainability and carbon neutrality made the software company the perfect partner for MAIRE.
After finalizing its business case for the RISE with SAP solution, the group adopted a big-bang approach to migrating its on-premise architecture to the cloud, completing the project a mere eight months later.
The shift to the cloud was a major undertaking, involving the internal IT team and partners. The company achieved this transformation without impeding day-to-day business operations, a crucial objective established at the outset of the project.
