Südzucker Group: Using the power
of plants to expand expertise in
nutrition, energy, and beyond
Present in roughly 100 locations in 31 countries, Südzucker Group produces and markets
food, animal feed, ethanol, and other products in the food and energy sectors. With more
than 100 years of history and 90 production sites worldwide, it processes 30 million tons
of renewable agricultural resources annually. With quality and sustainability at its core,
the group strives to create value from plants for nutrition, energy, and more so it can
become a partner of choice for customers, farmers, and consumers.
Due to organic growth, Südzucker Group’s corporate structure was complex and involved
unclear processes as well as different applications and modeling tools being used across
its five divisions. Aiming for optimization by identifying synergies, acting faster, and
harmonizing processes, Südzucker Group recognized the need to centralize its tools and
processes.

Process
Optimization
Before: Challenges and opportunities
• A complex corporate structure with historically grown and increasingly unclear processes and separate
applications in its five divisions
• Multiple process modeling tools, resulting in a lack of visibility and uniform rules
• Missing cross-functional cooperation and a tool to support business process transformation
Why SAP
• SAP Signavio portfolio, allowing Südzucker to perform process modeling and create a foundation for
process mining while transforming its business processes
• SAP LeanIX solutions to assist with enterprise architecture management by identifying duplicate applications
• Capabilities including access to a best-practices library, data integration across SAP applications,
knowledge management, and audit documentation
After: Value-driven results
• Delivered greater process transparency, helping address issues and complexity
• Enhanced cross-functional alignment with streamlined, standardized, and digitalized processes across the
group, driving more-efficient and user-friendly operations
• Supported smooth preparations for the SAP S/4HANA migration while fostering a culture of continuous
innovation, technology development, and improved user experience
• Helped identify a suitable new purchasing tool by recognizing selection criteria and aligning them with real
user needs
