Dr. Philipp Herzig
Chief Technology Officer, SAP SE
Philipp Herzig is Chief Technology Officer of SAP SE. In this role, he is a member of the Extended Board of
SAP SE and Chief Product Officer of SAP Business AI Platform. His responsibilities cover SAP’s platform, data,
and AI capabilities, spanning across the Build, Contextualize & Reason, and Govern components of SAP’s
unified platform. These include SAP’s platform products as well as data products such as SAP Business Data
Cloud and SAP HANA Cloud. In addition, he is responsible for Business Transformation Management which
comprises products and business areas such as SAP Cloud ALM, SAP LeanIX, SAP Signavio, and WalkMe. He
also oversees the underlying architectural principles, SAP’s technology and innovation strategy, and research
and innovation.
Before being appointed the Chief Technology Officer of SAP in January 2025, Herzig significantly shaped the
company’s footprint in Business AI as the Chief AI Officer since the beginning of 2024, being globally
responsible for design, engineering, go-to-market, marketing, and enablement for AI innovations. Herzig built
the successful move into the generative AI era on his extensive experience and successes in bringing SAP’s
product portfolio together in one seamlessly integrated experience for customers in the years prior. During
that time, his responsibilities ranged from driving SAP product integration efforts across the portfolio, to
harmonizing SAP’s user and mobile experience, and delivering cross-product innovation.
Herzig started his career at SAP in 2009 as a working student. Since then, he has held various positions as
software engineer, architect, product owner, and engineering leader at the SAP Innovation Center Potsdam.
During his tenure at SAP, Herzig always focused on cloud-native application engineering, distributed systems,
continuous integration and delivery, and fostering a culture of engineering excellence.
He is based in Potsdam, Germany, and holds a PhD in computer science from Dresden University of
Technology in Germany.
