Generative AI
models used by SAP
Which generative AI models
are used by SAP?
SAP chooses the AI models that are best suited for each generative AI
feature embedded in SAP solutions. Customers cannot change or choose
the underlying AI model used for these AI features.
For custom-built AI solutions and AI-powered extensions of SAP solutions
using SAP AI Core or SAP AI Launchpad, customers may choose from a large
list of available AI models and scenarios in the generative AI hub.
In both cases, SAP’s rights and obligations toward customers regarding the
use of generative AI models are governed by the SAP AI terms, which is
part of SAP's cloud services agreement.
Can customers choose the
generative AI model used for
a specific AI feature
embedded in one of the SAP
solutions?
No, customers cannot change or choose the AI model used for AI features
embedded in SAP solutions.
As new AI models enter the market and existing models evolve
technologically and commercially, SAP regularly evaluates which of the
available AI models is the most suitable for a given SAP solution.
SAP reserves the right to add, remove, or replace any AI model in the given
SAP solution at any time while adhering to the terms of SAP’s cloud services
agreement.
Can customers deploy their
own generative AI models?
Customers can access AI models hosted by SAP or third parties, either
natively in embedded AI features or through the generative AI hub in SAP AI
Core. Access to such AI models is subject to the customer’s cloud services
agreement with SAP, including the applicable security terms.
Customers can also access third-party AI models directly or deploy their
own AI models (including generative AI models) using SAP AI Core, the use
of which would be outside the scope of the customer’s cloud services
agreement with SAP.

Customer data
Can SAP use customer data
to train SAP Business AI?
Customer data can be used to improve existing AI features and
functionalities of the SAP cloud service to which the customer has
subscribed, subject to the terms of the customer’s cloud services
agreement, including the general terms and conditions for cloud services
and the data processing agreement.
Customer data can be used by SAP to develop new AI features and
functionalities, subject to the terms of the product development schedule,
which is part of the customer’s cloud services agreement.
Customers who agree to the product development schedule can monitor in
which SAP solutions their data might be used and opt out in the SAP for Me
interface.
Who can access customer
data submitted via SAP AI
technology?
Customer data remains safeguarded in SAP’s ecosystem. Customer data
entered in SAP AI technology is treated in the same manner as all customer
data that is entered into and processed by the cloud service. Therefore, all
rights, duties, and obligations around customer data set forth in the cloud
services agreement with SAP are honored.
Specifically for the usage of data to create new features and functionalities,
as per the product development schedule, only authorized SAP personnel
can access specific data.
Is customer data used to
train third-party generative
AI models?
SAP stands by the security of customer data and does not share customer
data with other vendors for the purpose of training or improving their
generative AI models.
Does customer data get
stored in third parties’ AI
models?
When customers use an SAP AI technology that leverages an AI model
hosted by a third party, their data is sent to the AI model provider for
processing only; it is not stored or otherwise retained by the AI model
provider.
Is customer data deleted
after use?
At the end of the agreement, SAP deletes the customer data remaining on
servers hosting the cloud service, unless applicable law requires retention.
Retained data is subject to the confidentiality provisions of the agreement.
Customers can export their data before the subscription term expires.
