ZSE Energia: Reducing VAT
obligations and manual processing
while safeguarding tax compliance
When energy markets were liberalized in the European Union (EU) in 2007, Slovakia’s
ZSE Energia a.s. was established as a wholly owned subsidiary of the Západoslovenská
energetika group (ZSE Group). The ZSE Group celebrated 100 years of operation in
Slovakia in 2022 and is a part of energy multinational E.ON SE. Today, ZSE Energia is one
of the biggest electricity and gas suppliers in the country, serving over one million
customers.
To manage its business processes efficiently and in accordance with the recently issued
amendment to the value-added tax (VAT) act in terms of EU directives, ZSE Energia
needed a solution to help it process accounts receivable deemed irrecoverable. The
right solution for bad-debt relief would help the company not only optimize VAT payable
but also ease tax compliance with robust localization for the Slovak energy market.

“SAP offers global solutions and localization-enabled
offerings that meet different countries’ requirements.
Functionality for reducing VAT payable to the justified
amount helps us optimize our tax costs when a customer
has not fully or has only partially paid for the supply
of goods or services and its claim has become
unenforceable.”
