The Tapestry of Perception

This exhibition brings together three distinct artistic voices, each exploring diverse aspects of perception, transformation, and transition in their own unique way.

Painting, sculpture, and installation art converge to offer a multifaceted exploration of media, awareness, time, and memory – concepts that weave a common thread throughout the exhibition, lending it a rich and resonant depth.

The artists convey their messages through the dynamic interplay of materials, repurposed and transformed in captivating constellations: wax melts into concrete, paintings embrace collage.

Modern society bombards us with a constant stream of visual and auditory stimuli, making it increasingly difficult to discern between first-hand experiences and those mediated indirectly. As such, we must become adept at filtering and making sense of the deluge of information that surrounds us.

Husband and wife artist duo Petra Fohringer and Stefan Mittlböck-Jungwirth-Fohringer, drawing from their own and gathered memory fragments, explore fundamental questions about the uncertainty of memory and the veracity of these fleeting impressions.

Petra Fohringer delves into the realm of memory manipulation, exposing the ways recollections can be shaped and altered at both the personal and collective level: How is our increasingly connected world changing the dynamic between what we see and our own consciousness? How is it influencing our perception of things?

Stefan Mittlböck-Jungwirth-Fohringer’s oevre, meanwhile, includes pieces that have emerged from his artistic research with honeybees. His installation of a beehive encased in concrete, for example, serves as a haunting testament to the demise of a bee colony, capturing the essence of transformation as witnessed in nature. The materials used create a visual experience that is both beautiful and thought-provoking, inviting us to reflect on life’s fragile balance and the role we play in it.

Overall, the couple’s works stand out for their vibrant color contrasts and monochromatic schemes, opening doors to fantastic worlds.

Petra Göhringer Machleid’s sculptures are likewise defined by the unexpected juxtaposition of materials such as concrete and beeswax, which she masterfully manipulates to conjure up mesmerizing structures and surface effects. By combining these elements, she highlights their inherent contradictions, resulting in wall objects and stelae with layered textures of wax and concrete. These evoke a compelling aesthetic that speaks to the passage of time and the weight of personal memories.

This exhibition embarks on a captivating and thought-provoking journey into sensory experience, transformation processes, and the science of recollection.
