Enterprise software is facing a reckoning: adapt to a world powered by AI—or risk being left behind.
But racing AI tools to market isn’t what delivers ROI at enterprise scale. True impact comes from intelligent experiences that people trust, adopt, and rely on every day. At SAP, we're focused on listening to our users and providing new intelligent experiences that truly work for them. As our portfolio grows more connected, design plays an increasingly central role in creating enhanced, consistent user experiences. Across Sapphire stages, our teams showcased Joule Work—an entirely new way to engage with and execute end-to-end business processes with AI collaboration.
Entering the age of Autonomous Enterprise
Joule Work is a dynamic, intent-driven workspace that surfaces the right insights, automates routine work and coordinates AI agents across systems. Joule delivers an unmatchable level of reliability and precision and is built on an architecture users already know and trust because of its enterprise-grade security, governance, control and data frameworks. This is where usability meets responsibility—good design doesn’t just make AI easy to use; it makes it harder to misuse.
Beyond consistency: designing for context
We aren’t stopping there. A new intelligent user experience needs to be powered by a new kind of design system. Traditional design systems provide building blocks for designers to enforce uniform decisions across static applications. We've evolved this idea to create the Compositional Design System, which works like a navigation system for AI to generate hyper-personalized UI for any given prompt. This advancement becomes critical in the Autonomous Enterprise, where AI agents need the right guardrails and logic to not only execute processes continuously across domains, but generate insights and UIs that are grounded in business context, compliance, and accessibility.
Designing AI people actually want to use
User experience is a key driver in making AI tools useful and effective for workforce users. Designers are driving the cultural shift that makes AI approachable, understandable and trusted at enterprise scale. From human-driven experience, where users trigger AI agents using natural language, to the ease with which users can build their own AI using Joule Studio, we are shaping how people interact with AI. Joule Studio empowers customers to build, extend, and tailor solutions in ways that align with their unique needs, without sacrificing usability or coherence.
Introducing Joule Work
At Sapphire, my colleagues and I highlighted SAP’s shift from the traditional app-centric interaction model to the Autonomous Enterprise in which users have one central place where tasks can be accomplished with unparalleled simplicity. This shift exemplifies SAP Design’s unwavering commitment to keeping human needs at the heart of our AI advancements. Joule Work gives users a unified, adaptive workspace across SAP and non-SAP systems, so leveraging the most relevant insights, agents, and models feels effortless. The result? A new human advantage that frees users from disjointed systems, manual handoffs, and time-consuming reconciliation.
Joule Work’s available solutions include:
- Conversations: AI powered chat with role-based intents, conversation threads, typehead, auto-suggestions and dynamic response types
- Spaces: Flexible AI-generated spaces that dynamically adapt content based on user intent and context
- Develop: an integration of Joule Studio that enables developers to vibe-code, test and deploy Agents and Workflows
