The SAP Design System
Our success as a company depends increasingly on how successfully we can provide a great user experience across all touch points with SAP, from discovery to the everyday use of our products. A key enabler to achieve holistic brand consistency is a shared, company-wide design system.
A design system provides a set of shared design artifacts, such as components and patterns, along with associated enablement: documentation and guidelines, UI kits of reusable artifacts. Since shared design elements need to fit into a coherent whole, a design system builds on foundational guidance for creating the design system: design principles, design language, interaction design, accessibility rules and tone of voice.
A shared design system at SAP has benefits, such as: a consistent experience, a common degree of design quality, and, with the increased efficiency, an increase in capacity for innovation. Do you want to dive deeper on the details of our SAP Design System? Then check out this document.

Why Area-specific Best Practices?
SAP’s central design system serves as the foundation, or the DNA, of all design work across the organization. However, specific areas and use cases have unique design needs that might not covered by the central design system.
By creating specific best practices for our organization, we can tailor the design language to our specific needs while still maintaining consistency with the central design system. This approach allows for a great flexibility in design, which enables our teams to work more efficiently and effectively.
Enabling our teams by leveraging consistency with the central design system and the flexibility of our extensions, will not only result in a more collaborative and cohesive design culture in our organization, it will also help to create exceptional and tailored user experiences that will benefit our customers.
