We’re evolving our compositional design system through three strategic phases, each adding new capabilities as we progress toward a truly AI-driven experience.

Evolution Phases

Phase 1: Spaces in the Engagement Layer

Sapphire 2026

The first production use of the compositional design system is inside SAP spaces, desktop and mobile, as part of the engagement layer at Sapphire. This phase focuses on generation: producing correct, consistent UI compositions from SAP design knowledge. Context and intent detection are not yet active. The goal is to prove the foundation.

Phase 2: Intent and Context

Post-Sapphire

The system evolves from generation to intelligent generation. Starting with the Analytics work stream, the agent begins reading user context and intent. Instead of simply generating valid UI, it generates the right UI for that user, in that moment.

Phase 3: Cross-Team and LOB Expansion

As the contribution model matures, adoption expands. Each team encodes their domain knowledge as rules, building a shared, cross-product layer of design intelligence across SAP.
