Terminology
Product Specifics / SAP BTP Services
Introduction
Goal
Ensuring that terminology is consistent across SAP BTP deliverables is a shared effort. It is important to be use the correct terms across documentation, videos, tutorials and UIs. Our single source of truth for terminology is SAPterm. This is where we store and maintain terminology all across SAP. This is also an important source for our translators.
Getting Started
Process
Authors are responsible for identifying and handling terms used for their product/service. There are general SAP BTP terms and product-specific terms (plus their definitions).
General terms: Terms that are not just specific to one product, but are rather used across SAP BTP. Send these terms plus their definitions to Anja Nicole Kretz who will involve further stakeholders in order to discuss them. Add any research and background information on the term you already have.
Product-specific terms: Terms that are specific to one product or service. UA, PO and PM of the respective service should discuss the term and its definition. Then, the author can enter the term in SAPterm. For any questions, reach out to Anja Nicole Kretz.
Guidelines
Entering T erms in SAPterm
-
Get writing access ("Term Creator") to SAPterm.
-
Identify and discuss the term and its definition with the needed stakeholders.
-
Check SAPterm to see if the term already exists. It is very important to avoid duplicates where possible!
- The term exists and the definition matches your definition - add your component to the term and you're done.
- The term exists but the definition doesn't match (or is missing) - contact the author to see if the definition can be updated to fit both your needs. If so, update the definition and add your component to the term.
- The term doesn't exist or it exists but with a complete different definition that can't be altered - enter a new term.
-
Pick a component for your term. For SAP BTP, we have
- BC-CP - this is for general terms across SAP BTP.
- BC-CP-CF - this is for terms that are CF environment specific.
- BC-NEO - this is for Neo environment terms only.
- Your service might have its own component. Usually, it is identical or similar to your support component. If you don't have your own component and have at least 30 terms for your product, then you can request a new component. If you have less than 30 terms, then you use the components BC-CP, BC-CP-CF, and BC-NEO.
-
When entering a new term in SAPterm, make sure to provide as much information as possible. You will at least need the term, its definition and a source. Please have a look at our terminology standards for SAPterm here - you can click through the topics to learn how to create good definitions and sources. The guidelines are taught in the training for the writing access, but it's always worth to freshen up your memory ;).
-
After entering your terms, contact Anja Nicole Kretz who is the superuser for these components. She will check the entries and approve them if they fit our standards.
-
Make sure to update your deliverables and, if necessary, roll out any new terms.
Service Names
Every service on SAP BTP needs a Brand Voice approved long and short name. Please see "Names and Descriptions" for more information.
SAP BTP Terminology Harmonization Project:
We are a group of SPOCs from each development area that share work in progress that generates new terms / modified usage of existing terms and verifies consistency across SAP BTP. We are aiming for a harmonization of terms frequently used all across SAP BTP.
You can read more about the project here.
