At Spar Nord, one of the largest Danish banks, Senior Vice President of Communication & Business Development, Ole Madsen, is right in the middle of Spar Nord’s ambitious digitalization. 

This is a transformation project that Ole calls "one of the most ambitious in the world right now" - and a project that aims to change the way Spar Nord adopts new technology - and the way that the bank interacts with its customers. It is a huge undertaking as few industries face the same massive challenges as the financial sector. For now.

The sector was originally on the very forefront of the early digitalization: Mainframes took over from dusty ledgers and home-banking accelerated the closure of the traditional local branches. The banks that mastered the transition prospered in the wake of the massive savings.

Fast forward to 2019 and it is - ironically - the very digital nature of money that challenges the modern financial institutions - as they struggle to adopt new technologies while fending off new digital players, looking to capture a slice of the most profitable products.

Episode 2: Velliv - CDO Christine Hunderup from Velliv, a large pension company, is constantly testing new ideas: ”We ask for feedback at 10 am and at 2 pm we have received responses from 150 customers”
At Velliv, CDO Christine Hunderup is at the center of a fast-paced digital transformation. 

Velliv, which was formerly named Nordea Liv & Pension, will in a few years change its central IT-platform, change the brand, and change the very way the company works digitally. This is a transition that affects several hundred thousand pension customers in Denmark's third largest pension company.
 
Today, the digital department that Christine Hunderup started 3 years ago, now includes 13 employees - people that have introduced a wealth of new skills to the company. Symbolically the digital office has moved out of the basement and into a central location where people from all over the business now participate in digital sprints.

Episode 9: This is how ATP's CIO Per Kjersgaard Rasmussen manages the it-systems that handles 2 out of 3 Danish welfare payments
Every year, the Danish collective pension insurance fund ATP pays out more than 250 billion Danish kroner - around 38 billion US dollars. A vast sum, all based on the contribution of almost all Danish citizens during their working lives.
 
Originally set up in 1964, ATP today also manages 2 out of 3 Danish welfare payments for the more than 5 million members.

With 37,000 employees, 1,050 shops and a 36% share of the Danish market, the 153-year-old retail chain COOP is one of the largest Danish companies. But the core market is in decline: when it comes to food, Danes focus more on price than quality, they dine out more and prefer to spend their money traveling the world or buying the latest smart phone. COOP's response has been to make COOP more local, simple and digital. The building blocks have so far been a hugely popular app, more self-service that lets you jump the line at the local supermarket, and a complete makeover of an aging IT-landscape.
