SAP BTP is really an amazing opportunity for customers and partners and it’s easy to get lost in the technical details of it all. I know our human experience management (HXM) customers can leverage what is available within SAP BTP and that it will open up new areas of innovation for them. My first choice session is a fundamental introduction to SAP BTP. I recommend this starter session for anyone keen to understand the capabilities and predefined business content and services within SAP BTP and how it can support their business goals.
Get Started with SAP BTP Leveraging SAP Discovery Center [XP160]
One of the great things about SAP TechEd is the opportunity to participate in hands-on workshops. I picked this one on SAP BTP because it will give me a chance to start from the beginning with a concrete use case and then develop it forward. I’m also keen to get some hands-on experience working with the SAP Discovery Center site.

I’m excited to learn more about the practical application of building extensions for SAP BTP including transforming data into business value and extending current solutions more quickly. In the old-school way of doing this, you were required to have plenty of technical skills to enhance the software. This should be a fun session where SAP will ask, "What are the issues customers have when using identity solutions from SAP?" We talk about the problems and the solutions. I love it when SAP is open about customer issues and then tries to help address them.
Business Applications Keynote [KEY101]
This session has both Thomas Saueressig and Meg Bear – I mean, what else do you want? Yes, it will be high level and probably have some marketecture slides in there, but it's also likely to be awesome! I really hope that they use some of the market research from the SAP research team to explain why SAP is going in certain directions here.
Build and Extend Apps with the ABAP RESTful Application Programming Model [DT281]
Funny how the hands-on version of this session is rated beginner, but this one is advanced! Either way, with the announcement of Embedded Steampunk for SAP S/4HANA Cloud solutions (especially public cloud), the desire to build enhancements using ABAP rather than the other tools on SAP BTP is going to be huge. (Why pay extra to host an enhancement when you already have a place you can use that you've already paid for?) ABAP RESTful application programming model is the way to build new enhancements on ABAP. That means ABAP has a second life, and I better jump on this train!
SAP’s Tool Chain for Implementing Your Intelligent Enterprise [IN109]
SAP has so many tools, and I fear we often end up in the trap of trying to make the one tool that we know do everything, rather than looking at what standard solutions are out there to solve the problem. Honestly, I sometimes wonder if SAP product teams fall into the same trap! But hopefully, this session will explain how we should be using the different tools to get the best experience. I have high hopes – let's see!
