Frequently asked questions

SAP Mobile Start requires internet access to exchange data and is an online application. Offline support requires separate native or offline-enabled apps.

Mobile Start uses SAML/OIDC SSO and integrates with common IdPs (SAP IAS, Azure AD, Okta, Ping, ADFS). It works with MDM/UEM for conditional access, app protection, and remote wipe. Backend authorizations, content security policy, and BTP or Work Zone settings determine the final security posture. Configure IdP, token lifetimes, and device policies accordingly. Use secure single sign-on to access all your SAP work without repeated logins or losing time switching between apps. For further information please visit the SAP Mobile Start – Administration Guide.

The biggest difference between SAP Mobile Start and SAP Start is that SAP Mobile Start is a mobile-first, native app, whereas SAP Start is designed for desktop use.
SAP Mobile Start can access other SAP apps and retrieve requested content. It can be customized, and it includes a task inbox, notifications, and device integrations.
SAP Start is a web-first, desktop-optimized entry page based on SAP Build Work Zone that can integrate content from SAP Cloud Solutions. It is not customizable.

SAP Mobile Start is a native mobile app that provides push notifications, consolidated task inbox, app shortcuts, deep linking, smoother navigation and access to device features (camera, scanners, widgets, etc.). Fiori Launchpad is a web-based launch portal that works on phones only through mobile browsers.

If you only need core portal capabilities, such as content aggregation, personalization, and basic mobile surfacing for pilots or simple portals, SAP Build Work Zone Standard is a good choice. Advanced is a better option if you need more customization for a more complex landscape, such as microapps, custom widgets or richer connectors, scripting, governance, and enterprise-scale integrations.

Yes, you can manage what individual users see in SAP Mobile Start. You can control visibility using your authorization and identity layers: backend roles (S/4, Gateway), BTP role collections, Work Zone group rules, and IdP group or claim mappings. You can use those options to target content per user, role, department, or pilot cohort. User provisioning and role changes are managed through your IdP and BTP configuration.

You can integrate a wide range of mobile-enabled apps into SAP Mobile Start—including SAP S/4HANA content, such as standard SAP Fiori/UI5 apps, custom UI5 or other web-based apps, third‑party web apps, micro apps, as well as native mobile apps (SAP or third‑party) that support URL scheme launching. Some integrations may require SAP BTP or Work Zone connectors, minor configuration or development, or updates to CSP/SSO settings. Embedding behavior and SSO depend on your security policies and identity provider configuration.

Mobile Start provides one central entry point to your apps, tasks, and notifications, reducing app switching and simplifying access. It provides a consistent, mobile-optimized UX and device integrations, simplifying rollout and governance while improving user productivity across mobile devices.
