Customer Snapshot: Success Strategy
Society’s Welfare Built in to the Mission
DBBL is also among the largest donors to social causes in Bangladesh, but is not content to help the country by simply donating money to those in need. DBBL considers automated banking a corporate social responsibility, and not just a profit accelerator. DBBL permits several local banks to leverage its sophisticated banking infrastructure.
The mission: Dutch-Bangla Bank engineers enterprise and creativity in business and industry with a commitment to social cause. “Profits alone” do not hold a central focus in the bank’s operation; because “man does not live by bread and butter alone.”
We strongly believe that these kinds of social and philanthropic activities would ultimately improve the quality of lives of the disadvantaged people of the country by receiving support for education, health care facilities, financial support, and assistance whenever there is a natural disaster.– Adebur Rashid Khan, CEO, Dutch-Bangla Bank Limited
Mobile Wallets Create Security
Only 13% of Bangladesh’s citizens were utilizing the services of banks. Citizens are always looking to safe keep their cash and protect it from theft or loss. The country is witnessing increased cash flow to rural areas as people moving to cities or abroad for jobs are sending money to family members back home.
DBBL turned to SAP and its Mobile Banking solution. DBBL once again revolutionized Bangladesh’s banking, and helped create a new business model for economic growth. Rural parts of the country lack financial payment infrastructure, and DBBL could not reach all would-be customers through typical bank branches. Dutch-Bangla Bank Limited sought out technology to enable them to create a mobile banking service.
Mobile agents based locally in rural communities can now help new customers do all their banking online. Agents are equipped with mobile devices, and the SAP Mobile Banking application is in place. Telecommunication retailers, couriers, and shopkeepers also become virtual agents of the bank by receiving deposits, paying with cash, and providing critical information services to users who can’t access a bank branch or the Internet.
DBBL is now reaching millions of urban and rural poor, who once had no access to a bank account. This population of the “traditionally unbanked” is finding new hope. This generation of rural Bangladeshis, now with access to banking services, is paving the way for growth and stability among the population.
Better Business: Benefits
Dutch-Bangla Bank has acquired hundreds of thousands of new customers since the launch of their mobile money service, and new customers are joining DBBL on a daily basis. Industrial workers, who never maintained a bank account, now have their salaries directly deposited. They can deposit and withdraw money quickly, easily, and securely.
