The aim of the programme was toconsolidate all the business units and disparate ERPs onto asingle global SAP template solution, whilst in tandemperforming a technical conversion to SAP S/4HANA.This also unlocked the ability to support the FinanceTransformation, which improved process standardisationacross the Finance function, including deploying new SAP VIMand Blackline functionality. The final consolidation of the largest and most complexbusiness unit (Platinum) took place in May 2023, whichincluded implementing SAP Fiori, SAP Extended WarehouseManagement, SAP BTP and SAP Analytics Cloud for planning.By consolidating Anglo Americans businesses onto a singleSAP S/4HANA platform, we now have the ability to drivestandardisation and future innovations. The end userexperience has improved with the adoption of tools such asSAP Fiori and the SAP BTP platform features.Apart from enabling the journey to cloud and potentially Rise inthe future, Anglo American can now extract higher value fromour SAP S/4HANA and cloud investments. This includesoptimising business productivity in noted areas such as globalpolicy adherence, high-level automation, faster digitisation, andbetter user experience. In 2015 Anglo American had more than 23 different ERPinstances across different technology platforms. This resultedin a complex environment lacking in functional and technicalstandards. It was a challenge to optimise and harmonise processes, dataand integration across disparate systems - resulting inincreased effort, cost and complexity associated with multipleend-of-life systems and associated security risks. As aconsequence, the fragmented environment and lack of agilityimpacted our ambition to support strategic imperatives at paceand scale.

All rights reserved | PUBLIC 4We came from a constellation of ERPs supporting our core transactionalprocesses across finance, maintenance and supply chain. There are manycomplexities with running a multinational, but as an efficiency we should beable to leverage our scale for common benefit but the ERP complexity meantthis has not been in our grasp. We've now completed the journey with oneconsolidated SAP platform for Anglo American and another for our De Beerssubsidiary, joined tightly in common process design. This vastly simplifiesour support arrangements, improves our resistance to fraud and cyberattack, and will facilitate the rapid deployment of Groupwideimprovements. Big projects are hard to deliver. Big projects running beyond5 years elude the best organisations, and the team and our partners thatsecured our transformation are to be credited with a great success. It's beena career highlight for me.Rohan DavidsonGroup Head of Information Management

[OFFICIAL]GLOBAL CHALLENGES BUSINESS CHALLENGESChallenges and Objectives 1 of 2© 2023 SAP SE or an SAP affiliate company. All rights reserved | PUBLIC 6As an extractive industry, Mining has been in the spotlight in termsof safety and sustainability, whilst providing the essential metalsrequired to support almost every human activity.Challenges range from the impact of commodity price cycles, geopolitical instability, disruption to trade flows, managing anageing workforce, as well as the increasing impact of the transitionto a green economy.Commodity price fluctuations place an emphasis on miners tomanage through the cycle, implying the need for very closemanagement of all inputs, be it cash, materials, equipment andlabour. This also means have the corporate agility to flex with thecycle, and so having far less variation in processes and systems. The transition to net zero means diversifying away from steam coal, but also seizing opportunities to develop and promote newindustries, notably the hydrogen economy, which relies on PlatinumGroup Metals. As a price-taker, Anglo American needs to be able to flex with thecommodity cycle - this means scaling the business appropriately,as well as dealing with acquisitions and divestments. Our business support systems evolved independently overdecades, meaning that even back-office activities such as generalaccounting were carried out using many different processvariations. These differences ultimately cost the corporation notonly in terms of unnecessary complexity, but also making itextremely difficult and cumbersome to rapidly deploy changesacross all regions, commodities and operations.Process variations imply different data structures and systems -increasing substantially the difficulty in obtaining comparableinformation across different business units. From an application management perspective, the very largenumber of systems and interfaces created unnecessary complexityand cost, whilst increasing controls risk.
