It is the people that you work with and the impact that you make which keeps me motivated, inspired, and proud to work at SAP.
When most people think of a fashion show, they conjure up images of spectacular sets, dramatic music, unique designs, and beautiful models. They also think of an audience filled with A-list actors, influencers, and editors. And the perfect Instagram post.
SAP has been a great presence at fashion shows around the world. “We play the role as part of an emerging tech offering to help create the perfect moment on the runway,” says Ivan, a full stack developer at SAP Digital Factory focused on innovation.
Ivan has been with SAP for almost 8 years and has extensive experience in digital media production, interactive design, and web development as well as enterprise web applications, REST APIs, mobile applications, AR/VR development, XR, data visualization, and more.
His expertise led him to be involved in The Runway of Dreams Foundation (RODF), working on the backend SAP Cloud Platform development for the Runway by SAP app.
RODF is a non-profit organization that works with the fashion industry to create a culture of inclusion and acceptance for individuals with disabilities.
RODF began when its founder, Mindy Scheir, got a seemingly simple request from her son, Oliver: he wanted to dress like his friends and wear jeans to school.
Oliver has Muscular Dystrophy and putting on jeans is extremely difficult for him. Mindy decided to use her background as a designer to make a difference, adding magnets behind buttons, having the product be adjustable and rethinking the way that clothing goes on the body.
“I am incredibly touched by the way Mindy has used her passion for design to fix a problem close to her heart and my heart,” says Ivan.
This is not the first time SAP has been part of a RODF runway show, but it was Ivan’s first time working with the team to ensure its success.
“I couldn’t have been more inspired by the group of individuals that I met on the project. These are everyday people who embrace life and show great strength and determination. All these moving parts would have made most teams tired and incredibly stressed, but not our team. This is thanks to Tiffany Monahan, from Grow by SAP, and many others on the team,” says Ivan.
“Tiffany worked with the SAP customer. She knew what the customer needed and how we could help. She made the entire experience seamless,” says Ivan. “It is the people that you work with and the impact that you make which keeps me motivated, inspired, and proud to work at SAP.”
Leading up to the runway show, Ivan worked to improve on previous versions of the app by adding new features and functionality. The goal was to make the experience enjoyable for users, while helping RODF drive more awareness and interest in Adaptive clothing and footwear.
“We needed to develop Runway V4 in time for the Runway of Dreams show to take the app to a whole new level. The improved app allows video from a show to play natively with comprehensive identification and buy now features so users don’t need to point their phone at another screen anymore. I’m proud to say that we achieved this goal thanks to the amazing teamwork by SAP, our customers, and partners,” says Ivan.
