Anna's Story

At SAP, we believe that when you bring everything you are, you can become everything you want.

2019 was a huge roller coaster of personal and work challenges, learnings and changes. I was incredibly lucky to have a supportive employer and a great manager standing by me.

I joined SAP in 2016 having applied for a Data Management Associate role but after the initial interview the manager thought that I would be a better match for the Org Management Team and so that’s where I started my career. I immediately felt part of the team and I loved the job and overall atmosphere. The onboarding went well, I felt free to ask all the questions I needed to ask, and I will be forever grateful for the patience of my colleagues and my manager.

As life always writes stories that we don’t expect, in summer 2018 I had to decide whether to follow my partner to Italy or stay in Prague. I decided to try my luck and moved to Italy. I knew that I couldn’t continue to work in the OM team as it was localized in Prague, but I stayed in touch and would meet the team every time I traveled back to Prague. My plan was to find a similar role in an Italian company, but following the implementation of a new HR system, my previous team needed help of colleagues with knowledge of the system and so I was offered a temporary contract with SAP in Italy, which I happily accepted.

My team helped me catch up quickly and my manager did her best to offer me maximum flexibility and trust, so I could decide whether to work from home or from the office (the Italian office is based outside of Milan and it took me up to two hours every day to get to the office). I decided to work from the office anyway for the experience. I was very curious to learn about other SAP offices and what I discovered was much more than what I was looking for. Unlike the big Prague office where the teams are separated by floors and don’t have so many touchpoints, the Italian HR colleagues all sit together in one office and collaborate closely as one cross-functional team. This was an amazing opportunity for me to gain knowledge from other teams. I had a chance to learn deeply about everyday work of local HR, HR Advisors, HRBPs, Total Rewards, recruitment and payroll colleagues.

After a few months, I had a chance to start working on a new project and I used the opportunity right away. I finally started to build a bigger overview of our processes and I had a chance to work closely with colleagues from other countries and most importantly other lines of business. I also changed role and started to support the head of our organization as his assistant.

2019 was a huge roller coaster of personal and work challenges, learnings and changes. But as all the good things must come to an end, at the end of the year I decided to move back to Prague. I was incredibly lucky to have a supportive employer and a great manager standing by me once again and in December 2019, I changed my office location and started to work from Prague with no change in role.

What a ride SAP has been, and I am ready for all the upcoming adventures.
